'Tis the season to get back on the health and fitness bandwagon! Senior Chair classes are on Wednesdays at 11:15 via zoom $5 per class. Pilates Zoom classes take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 a.m. (5 spaces available. I like to keep classes small so I can provide feedback even over the internet). Private Reformer/Trap Table Pilates sessions in my home studio are also available at $65 per hour. Hey hey! So I recently completed a yoga certification. Never ever thought I would do yoga but I would love to implement some of the moves into what I already do. Learning is good!! I have to admit that I have not always made working out a priority. When I was in real estate years ago, I let that rule my life. The truth is: I would have been much more able to deal with the fires had I taken care of my physical and mental health a bit better. The key is to put it on your schedule and treat it like an appointment. Make YOU a priority so you can better serve others. Would love to hear if you are doing that!

Those of you who know me know that I LOVE clothes and shoes. Being in fitness, I am in leggings 90% of the time. However, I'm still into a cute pair of ripped jeans. Some “experts” claim eating fruit slows your digestion so that food ferments in your stomach, creating a long list of issues.

But …

👉Fact 1: Eating does slow your digestion, a little.

One study found people who ate fruit fiber had a stomach emptying rate of 82 mins, vs. 70 mins for people who didn’t eat fruit fiber.

This is not long enough to cause food to spoil in your stomach.

👉Fact 2: Your stomach is specifically designed to prevent the growth of bacteria. Stomach acid helps kill bacteria and prevents microbial growth.

👉Fact 3: Slower digestion can actually be a good thing, as it can help you feel full for a longer period of time.

Those of you who know me well, know that I am all about simple and speed. I jokingly say about myself "I'm lazy!". However.....

🍓🍹If you’re looking for a special occasion healthy breakfast or brunch recipe, look no further!

These layered smoothies are BEAUTIFUL and they also happen to taste great.

Basically, these are two different fruit smoothies layered on top of each other.

🥭🥥🫐You can substitute other fruits – cherries, berries, pineapple, kiwi, orange, etc. – for the ones included in this recipe. You might have to adjust the honey slightly if you use tart fruit like blackberries.

LAYERED SMOOTHIES
(Makes 2 smoothies)

2 cups (280 g) frozen whole strawberries
2 cups (450 g) low-fat plain Greek yogurt, divided
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp honey or maple syrup
Optional: Vanilla oat or almond milk
2 ripe frozen small bananas, chopped
1 tsp vanilla
Optional: 1-2 strawberries for garnish

Place the strawberries, 1 cup of Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and sweetener in a high-speed blender. Process until smooth, adding milk if necessary to reach desired consistency – it should be fairly thick.

Scrape out of the blender and into a pitcher or other vessel, and place in the refrigerator to chill.

Rinse out the blender and add the remaining yogurt, frozen banana, and vanilla. Process until smooth. If it’s too thick, add milk to help reach desired consistency.

Scrape out of the blender and place in a blender or other container and place in the refrigerator to chill.

When it’s time to serve, take two serving glasses and place half of the banana mixture into the bottom of each. Top both with half of the strawberry mixture. Garnish the top with the optional strawberry.
