The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides scientists in the lab the funding they need to make game-changing discoveries in cancer treatments, detection, prevention and ultimately, a cure. NFCR has distinguished itself in the cancer research sector by emphasizing long-term, transformative research often overlooked by other major funding sources. With the help of more than 5.3 million individual donors over the last 50 years, NFCR has provided $410 million in funding to public education and cancer research leading to some of the important, life-saving discoveries that benefit patients today.

Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the United States -- but it doesn't have to be.
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and as we close out the month, the work is far from over. Early detection saves lives. Breakthrough research saves lives. And your support makes both possible.
NFCR-funded scientists are working every day to find better treatments, earlier diagnostics, and ultimately -- a cure.
Don't let the month end without taking action. Make a gift today and fuel the research that's changing outcomes for colorectal cancer patients right now.

Since 1973, NFCR has been funding the kind of groundbreaking cancer research that changes lives. We believe the next cure is within reach, and the scientists working to find it deserve every resource we can give them. That's why we exist. That's what drives us every day. When you support NFCR, your dollars don't just sit in a fund -- they get to work.
They fund researchers pursuing the next breakthrough in early detection. They support scientists developing smarter, more targeted treatments. They move discoveries from the lab closer to the clinic.

Donor support is the engine behind everything we do at NFCR. Every contribution is a direct investment in the future of cancer research -- and in the patients who are depending on that progress.

We Make Cures Possible. And it starts with you.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and the conversation has never been more urgent.

Colorectal cancer is no longer just a disease that affects older adults. 1 in 5 people diagnosed with colorectal cancer today is under age 55, and it has become the leading cause of cancer-related death among young adults. Among adults ages 20 to 49, cases rose 3% each year between 2013 and 2022, even as rates in older populations declined.
That's exactly why the research NFCR funds matters so much. From targeting a protein found in over 50% of cancers to developing a botanical drug that enhances chemotherapy and immunotherapy, NFCR-funded scientists are working to push new treatments from the lab into clinical trials, and toward real patients.

STAT3 is a major signaling protein in cells. Hyperactivation of STAT3 occurs in over 50% of cancers, including colorectal cancer, and results in abnormal cell growth, escape from our immune system, metastasis (spreading), and other cancer-associated processes. Up to 85% of cancer patients are at risk of malnutrition -- and it's one of the most under-recognized threats to their recovery.

This National Nutrition Month, NFCR is drawing attention to the critical role nutrition plays in cancer care. Malnutrition can interrupt treatment, increase infection risk, and account for up to 20% of early deaths in cancer patients. The right foods -- high in protein, rich in anti-inflammatory compounds -- can help patients maintain strength, heal faster, and complete their treatment courses.

NFCR-supported researcher Dr. Michael Wang breaks down what patients actually need and shares an easy, nutrient-packed recipe that can make a real difference at home. Read the full blog here: https://hubs.ly/Q047prQb0

It's Brain Awareness Week -- and NFCR-supported scientist Dr. Rakesh K. Jain just gave us a reason to pay attention.
His latest research found that dasatinib, a drug already approved by the FDA to treat leukemia, could be effective against ependymoma -- a rare, treatment-resistant brain tumor that most commonly affects children.
This is what smart cancer research looks like: finding new applications for existing tools to get better treatments to patients faster.

Fake spring has us all feeling fresh -- so let's talk about what's actually on your plate. March is National Nutrition Month, and the science is clear: a colorful, plant-forward diet is one of the most powerful defenses against cancer. NFCR funds the research that makes that connection possible. What are you eating this season?

What happens when a patient becomes the architect of a new model for cancer research?

In the latest episode of NFCR's All Things Cancer podcast, Dr. Sujuan Ba speaks with Kathy Giusti -- founder of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and author of Fatal to Fearless. Diagnosed with multiple myeloma at 37, Kathy channeled urgency into action, building a first-of-its-kind collaborative network that helped bring 15+ new therapies to patients and more than doubled survival rates in the disease.

They discuss venture philanthropy, data sharing, adaptive trial design, patient navigation, and the future of AI in oncology. It is a wide-ranging, honest conversation about what it really takes to move the needle in cancer research.

March is National Nutrition Month! What you eat can play a significant role in preventing cancer and in staying strong during treatment.

Exotic fruits, such as dragonfruit and soursop, contain essential nutrients and antioxidants that research suggests may help fight cancer and support overall health.

This National Nutrition Month, challenge yourself to try something new: add colorful, nutrient-dense fruits to your plate and nourish your body from the inside out.

Today on Rare Disease Day, we stand with the millions of individuals and families affected by rare diseases β€” including glioblastoma (GBM), one of the most aggressive and difficult-to-treat brain cancers.

Through our leadership in GBM AGILE, the first global adaptive platform trial for GBM, NFCR is helping accelerate the development of new therapies by testing multiple treatments simultaneously and learning from every patient enrolled.

Because no disease is too rare. And every patient deserves progress.

A new precision approach to small cell lung cancer may help doctors determine who will actually benefit from immunotherapy before treatment even begins.

Researchers studying extensive-stage small cell lung cancer identified DLL3 levels in circulating tumor cells as a strong predictor of response to tarlatamab. In simple terms, a blood test could help match the right patient to the right therapy.

This research builds on decades of NFCR support for Dr. Daniel A. Haber and his pioneering work in circulating tumor cell technology.
