ā¤ļøā𩹠Healing Across Generations- What your healing does
Thereās a question that I sometimes get when Iām working with clients and that is- How does my healing help the people who came before me?
When one person heals and integrates a pattern fully, a disempowering looping belief, a wound, a trauma (Big T -trauma or Small t - trauma), when itās fully integrated- not intellectually, but somatically- in the body, in relationships, in real life, something shifts.
The pattern stops repeating.
The reaction that once felt automatic becomes a conscious choice. The story that once ran unconsciously becomes visible. The nervous system that once braced for what came before, begins to soften and settle.
And in that settling, something important happens- The pattern loses its grip, it loses coherence.
Not because it suddenly disappeared, but because it is no longer being carried forward in the same way.
The field no longer requires repetition. The information becomes available in the field but no longer running as a program within you.
āSo,how is this beneficial to an ancestor- How does Your healing and integration benefit the ancestors who already lived and died?
Your healing does not go backward and erase what your ancestors lived through. It does not undo their pain. It does not change their experiences.
But it does change something else.
It changes how that pain continues to live on. It completes something that was left unresolved by the ancestor/s⦠something that was incomplete in the field they participated in.
When someone lives through something that cannot be fully processedāwhether itās fear, loss, shame, silence, or survivalāit doesnāt just vanish. The experience ended but the meaning did not complete.. if the person couldnāt or didnāt have the capacity or tools to heal themselves then the pattern stayed active in the field. The pattern continues because it is encoded in people. It ārepeatsā because children adapt to caregivers, coping strategies get modeled and unresolved pain shapes peopleās behavior unconsciously.
It gets carried forward through learned behaviors, emotional responses, relationship patterns
and beliefs about safety, love, and the world.
Because that pattern stayed active in the field- during life and even after death, the pattern seeks to express through descendants if itās not resolved . Not because the ancestor is āstuck,ā but because the field never closed the loop. In other words -humans tend to recreate familiar patterns until they become conscious enough to change them.
šCompleting the Loop
When you consciously work with a pattern- a wound, a trauma and belief āwhen you feel it, understand it, respond differently, and integrate itāyou are doing something profound. You are interrupting the repetition, and the loop completes. The field reorganizes and the ancestorās pattern is no longer held in an unresolved state. So for the ancestor nothing is erased, nothing is undoneā¦but the unfinished charge relaxes.
The pattern doesnāt need to keep expressing itself in the same way, because it has finally been met with awareness.
āØA simple way to think about it:
Itās like someone started telling a story, but never got to finish it. You donāt change what they said.
But by understanding it fully, you bring the story to completion.
People often say that after deep healing, they feel a sense of peace connected to those who came before them. A feeling like- They can finally rest.
Whatās actually happening is your internal relationship to them changes. We often will feel more compassion, less anger, more understanding and a sense of closure.
That can feel like - They know⦠they understand⦠theyāre at peace now.
But whatās actually happening is you are no longer carrying the same unresolved emotional charge. Your nervous system releases the old patterns that they carriedā¦that tied you to them in that particular way - the fear, silence, guilt, survival responses- they begin to unwind and you start to feel like there is relief, a sense that - something beyond just me has settled.
Youāre no longer relating to them only through what hurt, what was missing or what was unresolved. Youāre able to see and hold a more complete picture. Something bigger comes into peace, understanding and compassion, resonance and the emotional loop closes- something is resolved.
People often sense presence from their ancestors during moments of healingā¦.feeling they are being accompanied or they have vivid dreams or symbolic experiences of reconciliation.
Are those literally the ancestors?
I guess we donāt have actual proof.. But I do know they are real experiences. And those experiences help the brain process, help the body release and create closure and meaningā¦and that matters.
Thereās something I also want to say. And that is this isnāt an obligation on your part. You donāt have to do the work⦠but to me it feels like an honor and I know from my own experience at the very least it changes things for the better in your life.
Healing is often spoken about in a way that sounds like responsibility. Like itās up to you to heal this for the family . Itās your responsibility to break the cycle.
But for many people, that framing feels heavy. And itās not entirely true. Because this work is not about obligation.
Obligation implies - I have to carry this. This is my burden. But healing, when itās real, often feels different. It feels more like- I see clearly now, I have a choice. I get to respond differently. It feels like honor.
Not because you were assigned a role, but because you recognize the moment youāre in. You are part of a pattern that existed before youāand you are aware enough, the one who has the capacity to change how it continues. That awareness to me is not a burden. Itās a privilege. Itās a realization that you can have profound impact and influence to create meaningful change.
š From a higher-realm / Oversoul perspective
From the Oversoul perspective the ancestors are not viewed as fixed personalities stuck in time or beings waiting for you to āfixā something.
They are understood more as streams of experience, expressions within a larger field of awareness (Oversoul), patterns that were lived, felt, and then integrated into a greater whole.
So the question becomes less- Do they feel relief?
And more- What happens in the greater field when coherence is restored? What is felt at that level.
From that perspective- When you integrate something deeplyā
not just understand it, but become coherent with itāthere is a kind of harmonic settling.
Itās not emotional in the human sense. Not relief like āthank you for saving me.ā
More like- a pattern that was once fragmented becomes whole and in that wholeness, there is less distortion, less repetition and more availability of energy and awareness.
āDo āancestorsā feel that?
Not as individuals the way we might imagine. Sometimes thatās hard to hear. Because we are human and we are relational beings, emotional beings. I like to think of our ancestors as we knew them and related to them. And we can still do that- thereās nothing wrong with relating to our ancestors or talking to them like we remember them.
But from higher perspective lens you can think of it like- When I become coherent, the pattern we all participated in no longer carries distortion and that shift is registered in the field of awareness itself.
We feel it as relational- of course- weāre human. And that is real, an important and meaningful. Our system translates coherence naturally into peace, warmth, presence of our loved ones, connection. So it can feel like theyāre with me⦠they know⦠theyāre at peace. What weāre sensing is alignment, not that they were dependent on us to rescue them.
āSo Who Benefits From Your Healing?
You do.
Your body becomes less reactive, your nervous system .
Your life becomes more intentional.
The present does.
Your relationships shift.
You respond instead of repeat.
The future does.
Patterns are no longer passed on in the same way. New possibilities become available.
And what about the ancestors?
You may have heard the idea that healing affects āseven generations forward and seven generations backward.ā
There is no scientific, biological, or psychological rule that says healing affects exactly 7 generations forward or backward.
The number 7 is symbolic, not necessarily literal. It comes from traditions like some Indigenous teachings ā¦often referencing responsibility across generations, emphasizes that decisions today affect the lineage of the past and the future, because time is not viewed as linear, rather it is viewed as cyclical or time moving like a wheel, and it can loop back onto itself. Similar beliefs of our intimate interconnectedness- between us- the living, the ancestors and the unborn are also understood across other spiritual traditions. It all leads to the belief that we have a sacred responsibility to leave a better world for future generations and to honor the ancestors who came before us.
If scientific proof is important to you- there is science that suggests that the effects of Trauma (epigenetic and behavioral) can be seen across 2ā3 generations.
With that said science is limited - it doesnāt understand everything.
Either way the meaning behind it matters: Your choices ripple farther than you can see.
āļøImportant to Note-
You are not responsible for healing everything that came before you. And you are not responsible for everything that comes after.
But You Are part of the pattern. And that means you have influence.
The Work
Healing is not as much about fixing the past. Itās more about changing what continues. Itās about noticing what was handed to youāand deciding, with awareness- Does this continue through me? Or does it end here?
Truth -
You didnāt deserve the pain that may have come before you.
But you do have power in what happens next. And sometimes, that is where the deepest healing lives.
With love and clarity
