Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation

Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation Founded by Ali & Joe Torre in 2002 to end the cycle of domestic violence and abuse through education. These rooms are staffed by a master’s-level therapist.

By providing resources and support, our young people are able to cope with their trauma and find hope, healing, and empowerment for their futures. Our model is unique because it provides both clinical intervention and prevention services. At our school locations, we establish a safe room – known as Margaret’s Place, named after Joe Torre’s mother. In this setting, we:

-Have group and individual counseling for young people impacted by violence and abuse.
-Hold workshops for teachers to build a safer school environment.
-Hold workshops for parents to make homes and communities stronger.
-Raise awareness on how to prevent violence.
-Empower young people to become advocates and leaders.

Meet Jadyn McQueen, Margaret’s Place Counselor at Riverview East Academy 💛

Miss Jadyn shows up every day to hold space for students, whether that’s a quick check-in, a deeper conversation, or just having somewhere to go when things feel like a lot.

From everyday check-ins to student-led campaigns, her work helps young people build the awareness, confidence, and language to navigate relationships in healthy ways.

We are grateful to have Miss Jadyn on our team. ✨

Transgender Day of Visibility is a moment to honor identity, courage, and the power of being seen.

At Safe At Home, we believe every young person deserves spaces where they can show up as they are, be respected, and feel supported. That starts with listening, learning, and creating environments rooted in care.

If this is something you’re still learning about, that’s okay. Showing up with openness is a meaningful place to begin. 💛

Earlier this month, we joined the Business Markets & team for a portion of their leadership summit.

Safe At Home board member Chris Flood, Senior Vice President & CRO, Business Markets & Connect at Verizon Business Group, joined our co-founder for a fireside chat on leading with heart, reflecting on defining moments in leadership.
Our CEO, Maile Zambuto, also shared more about Safe At Home and Verizon’s long-term partnership.

During their time together, the Verizon team assembled backpacks filled with essentials for students—a generous act that will directly support young people in a meaningful, tangible way.

Thank you to Chris and the Verizon team for continuing to show up as a partner in this work. 🙏✨

Last month, Royal Oaks STEAM Academy in Duarte, CA, completed the validation phase to be designated as a School to Watch at both the state and national levels by The National Forum, a nonprofit educators’ association dedicated to improving education and school-based supports for all young adolescents in the middle grades.💛

The National Forum’s Schools to Watch program recognizes schools that meet students’ social, emotional, and academic needs in culturally responsive, inclusive ways and serve as models for educators nationwide. We are proud to share that Margaret’s Place played a significant role in the school’s successful application.

A very special shoutout to Ms. Silvia (Silvia Galis-Menendez), former Margaret’s Place counselor at Royal Oaks, whose leadership helped make this achievement possible. Silvia is now at Waite Middle School which will complete its own School to Watch validation! ✨

Students at Santa Monica High School in Los Angeles took part in a lunchtime activity focused on what healthy relationships actually look like.

For Teen Dating Vi*lence Awareness Month, Margaret’s Place Peer Leaders invited students to create “building blocks” of a healthy relationship. Each one was added to a shared display, building a collective picture of what students believe matters most in their relationships. 💛

Led by Counselor Ms. Lockhart, our Margaret’s Place site at White Plains High School in Westchester County, NY offers students a calm space to pause, talk, and find support.

During Teen Dating Vi*lence Awareness Month, students filled a board with hearts to reflect together on respect, boundaries, and what healthy relationships look like.

Creating spaces where students can have these conversations — and support one another — is at the heart of Margaret’s Place. 💛

For years, John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls has been a generous supporter of Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation.

We’re grateful he’ll be joining us again in Los Angeles for a special solo performance at this year’s Los Angeles gala in support of The Next Generation of Change — helping ensure young people have access to the safe spaces, trusted relationships, and support they need to thrive.

John has continued to show up for young people and the work of Margaret’s Place — and we’re honored to have him with us for this evening.

Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to welcome the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation to our Margaret’s Place site at White Plains High School in Westchester County, NY.

During their visit, they spent time with Margaret’s Place Counselor Ms. Lockhart and heard directly from students about what the space means to them — a place to talk, find support, and feel grounded during difficult moments.

We’re grateful for the ’s partnership and generous support, which helps sustain Margaret’s Place sites serving students, families, and school communities in Westchester, including White Plains High School and Peekskill Middle School.

Thank you for taking the time to visit, ask thoughtful questions, and see the impact of this work firsthand. We’re proud to continue building this impact together. ✨

Peer Leaders from our Margaret’s Place site at Bellflower Middle School / High School took the lead during Teen Dating Vi*lence Awareness Month, creating space for students to talk about relationships, respect, and boundaries.

Through interactive “green flag / red flag” activities during lunch, the conversations sparked thoughtful peer-to-peer dialogue and helped students reflect on what respect and care should look like in both their dating relationships and friendships.

When young people lead these conversations, the message reaches their peers in ways that feel real, relatable, and meaningful. 💛
