🌏 Travelling Soon? Beware of Animal Bites! 🛫

Travellers should be cautious around animals overseas, especially wild ones like monkeys and dogs. These animals may carry diseases like rabies, which can be transmitted through bites or scratches.

⚠️Tips to Stay Safe:
• Avoid contact with animals, including pets and strays.
• Steer clear of areas where wild animals roam.
• Don’t feed or play with animals.
• Wash your hands after any animal contact.
• Seek urgent medical advice if bitten or scratched.

If bitten or scratched, wash the wound with soap and water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice immediately.

🚢 GERMS DON’T TAKE HOLIDAYS – EVEN ON A CRUISE! 🦠 | Planning a cruise? Just remember, while you’re sipping cocktails and soaking up the sun, germs are busy working overtime! COVID-19, flu, and gastro love a good buffet (and we don’t mean the one on Deck 5).

🛳 Before You Set Sail:
• If you’re at higher risk of severe illness talk to your doctor. They can help you prepare with a care plan and the right meds, just in case.
• Make sure your vaccinations are up to date
• Feeling unwell before boarding? Let the crew know—it’s better to reschedule than bring a viral hitchhiker aboard!

🧼 On Board:
• Wash your hands often, especially before meals and after touching surfaces. Soap and water are your best friends!
• If you feel unwell, stay in your cabin and let the crew know. They’re there to help and keep everyone safe.
• Test positive for COVID-19 or flu? Stay in your cabin as much as possible, and if you need to leave, wear a mask and avoid crowded areas.

🛑 After Your Cruise:
Once you’re back on land, follow health advice in the state or country you’re in. If you’re feeling off after disembarking, take precautions and avoid spreading anything to others.
Stay safe, have fun, and remember germs don’t take holidays! 🌴🦠

LOOK OUT! IT’S MOZZIE SEASON | Mosquito numbers are likely to increase with the warmer weather. Please protect yourself against mosquito bites, which can cause diseases such as Japanese Encephalitis and Murray Valley Encephalitis, and infection with Kunjin virus, Ross River virus and Barmah Forest virus.

To prevent mosquito bites:
🦟 Apply repellent to exposed skin. Use repellents that contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Check the label for reapplication times
🦟 Re-apply repellent regularly, particularly after swimming. Be sure to apply sunscreen first and then apply repellent
🦟 Wear light, loose-fitting long-sleeve shirts, long pants, socks and covered footwear
🦟 Avoid going outdoors during peak mosquito times, especially dawn and dusk
🦟 Use insecticide sprays, vapour dispensing units and mosquito coils to repel mosquitoes (mosquito coils should only be used outdoors in well-ventilated areas)
🦟 Cover windows and doors with insect screens and checking there are no gaps
🦟 Remove items that may collect water such as old tyres and empty pots from around your home to reduce the places where mosquitoes can breed
🦟 Use repellents that are safe for children. Most skin repellents are safe for use on children aged three months and older. Always check the label for instructions
🦟 Use an infant carrier draped with mosquito netting to protect infants aged less than three months, secured along the edges
🦟 While camping, use a tent that has fly screens to prevent mosquitoes entering or sleep under a mosquito net

XMAS LEFTOVERS? | Don’t risk Salmonella, enjoy the summer and the festivities! With the summer heat and all the food gatherings on, remember to keep your food safe and avoid food poisoning. Whether you’re having a BBQ, heading out to a picnic, or having people over, here are 5 things to avoid:

♨️ Don’t leave food sitting on the bench. If it’s hot, keep it hot; if it’s cold, keep it cold (fridge/freezer).
🍗 Don’t mix raw and cooked foods. Keep them separate. Use one cutting board for fresh fruits and vegetables and another one for raw meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood.
🍴 Don’t use the same utensils and plates for raw and cooked meats, poultry, eggs and seafood. If you don’t have enough utensils and plates, then wash them well in hot soapy water before reusing.
🧊 Don’t overload your fridge – it won’t be able to keep the food cool enough.
🗓️ Don’t use foods past their expiry date
