Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation As a US-based non-profit organization, HRF is dedicated to supporting the success and sustainability of
rehabilitation in Haiti.

We support Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy education in Haiti, primarily by providing logistical and financial support to FSRL, an OT/PT program in Haiti. PURPOSE STATEMENT - WHY we exist
The Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation (HRF) was founded to address the lack of adequate rehabilitation
services in Haiti by creating a sustainable, Haitian-led solution. In response to the critical shortage of
trained rehabilitation professionals, HRF established Faculté des Sciences de Réhabilitation de
Léogâne (FSRL)—Haiti’s first academic program for occupational and physical therapy. Our purpose is to empower rehabilitation professionals in Haiti with the education,
resources, and professional development needed to provide high-quality rehabilitation services. CORE VALUES
▪ Empowerment: Equipping Haitian professionals to lead, innovate, and transform rehabilitation services
— ensuring Haitian sovereignty in advancing healthcare solutions.
▪ Sustainability: Committing to long-term, Haitian-led solutions that foster growth and maximize
utilization of Haitian workforce and resources.
▪ Collaboration: Partnering with Haitian organizations, educators, and global supporters to advance
rehabilitation while respecting Haiti’s leadership and self-determination.
▪ Cultural Respect: Respecting Haiti’s dignity and unique identity by promoting culturally relevant
rehabilitation education and practices that reflect Haitian values and priorities. VISION STATEMENT - WHAT we envision
(Guided by our Purpose and Core Values)
We envision a Haiti where every person has access to high-quality, culturally relevant rehabilitation,
prevention, and wellness services — delivered by skilled Haitian professionals — empowering Haitians
to live with dignity, independence, purpose, and meaning.

▪ FSRL thrives as a Haitian-led academic center of excellence, training generations of rehabilitation
professionals to lead Haiti’s rehabilitation movement.
▪ Haitian rehabilitation professionals are fully integrated into Haiti’s healthcare system, collaborating with
interdisciplinary teams and earning widespread recognition for their expertise.
▪ Haiti stands as a global model for rehabilitation education and practice. MISSION STATEMENT - HOW we achieve our vision
(Directed by our Vision)
HRF is committed to sustaining high-quality education and training of rehabilitation professionals in
Haiti through financial, logistical/operational, and strategic support. We fulfill our mission by:
▪ Strengthening FSRL as a Haitian-led center of excellence in rehabilitation education.
▪ Supporting the professional development of FSRL graduates and other Haitian rehabilitation
professionals.
▪ Engaging volunteers, building partnerships, acquiring resources and expertise, and sharing the work of
HRF globally.
▪ Collaborating with Haitian professional associations and organizations to promote rehabilitation
education, practice, advocacy, and policy. Through these efforts, Haitian rehabilitation professionals will be equipped to lead, innovate, and deliver
culturally relevant rehabilitation services in Haiti — reducing disability-related barriers and transforming lives.

From 2nd Story Goods, poignant words that reflect the love, respect, and compassion we hold toward our neighbors: “Today, we’re holding Haiti close. Praying for peace, protection, and compassion—for those at home and those far from it”.

Haiti is more than a headline. Always has been.

Today feels heavy for Haiti.

A lot is unfolding, and for many Haitians this isn’t news—it’s daily life. Uncertainty. Fear. Waiting. Holding on.

Haiti is home. It’s our partners, our artisans, our friends. People who keep showing up, creating, and caring for their families in the middle of instability that should never be normal.

Some have been forced to leave. Others remain, navigating risks most people will never understand. And many Haitians abroad carry a different kind of fear—about safety, belonging, and whether peace can last.

We’re sharing this for perspective, not sympathy.
And to say this clearly: dignity matters. People matter.

Today, we’re holding Haiti close. Praying for peace, protection, and compassion—for those at home and those far from it.

Haiti is more than a headline. Always has been.

🙏 With Heavy Hearts 🙏

Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of an Agape Flights aircraft in Haiti. For many years, Agape Flights has been a vital lifeline — faithfully delivering supplies, equipment, and encouragement to organizations serving the Haitian people.

We are grateful for their unwavering commitment to Haiti and stand in prayer and solidarity with the families, team members, and supporters affected by this devastating loss.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT: EDUCATION AS LIBERATION

This Black History Month, we honor the resilience, brilliance, and leadership of the Haitian people.

At the Faculté Des Sciences De Réhabilitation De Léogâne, Haitian students are becoming occupational therapists and physical therapists — professionals who are transforming healthcare access in their own communities.

For generations, Haiti relied on visiting professionals to provide rehabilitation services. Today, because of Haitian-led education, that narrative is changing.

Black history is not only about the past. It is being written every day in classrooms in Léogâne.

We are incredibly grateful for volunteers like Richard Sabel, MA, MPH, OTR, GCFP, who generously share their expertise with OT and PT students at Faculté Des Sciences De Réhabilitation De Léogâne UNEPH through remote teaching. Richard is Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.

This video shows an adapted spoon designed by students Jennifer G. and Lainika T. for an assignment in Richard’s Assistive Technology Adaptive Design class. Students were given case studies and challenged to design functional devices using local materials and cultural knowledge to meet real client needs.

This kind of international partnership strengthens education, builds local capacity, and helps ensure that rehabilitation in Haiti is led by Haitian professionals.

Love this! All words related to human movement - words that are part of the vocabulary of every occupational and physical therapist and student in Haiti.

Did you know that Faculté Des Sciences De Réhabilitation De Léogâne UNEPH is the first and only university-based program preparing both OTs and PTs. And we are growing to meet the significant need for rehabilitation practitioners in Haiti
