What an incredible day at the Hockey Tournament! 🏑❤️

We were proud to host a donor drive in support of Emilia, helping raise awareness of blood cancer and the life-saving impact of stem cell donation. Emilia herself received a match from a complete stranger in Germany — a powerful reminder of how one selfless act can change everything.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, we were able to sign up 34 potential donors. Our hope is that among them is another stranger who could be the perfect match for someone in need. 💛

A huge thank you to Emilia’s sister-in-law Sally for inviting us, Wats Hockey Club, our amazing volunteers Sophie and Courtney, supporting our Community Engagement Manager-Gemma, and of course every single person who took the time to sign up and make a difference.

Together, we are giving hope. 💫

We are incredibly proud to share that our very own Community Engagement Manager, Gemma, has been nominated for a Local Heroes Award in the Charity Champion category ❤️

Gemma goes above and beyond ever to support the community, raise awareness, and make a real difference in the fight against blood cancer. Through her dedication, since 2017, she has helped sign up thousands of people to the stem cell register — and incredibly, some of those individuals have gone on to donate their stem cells, helping to save lives.

Her passion, commitment, and impact truly embody everything Race Against Blood Cancer stands for.

This nomination is so well deserved, and we would love your support in helping her get the recognition she deserves. Please take a moment to vote for Gemma — every vote makes a difference!

This Saturday (18th April), we’re coming together for something that truly matters ❤️

Race Against Blood Cancer will be hosting a stem cell donor recruitment drive alongside an exciting hockey tournament at WV Active, Aldersley (Wolverhampton), from 9am – 2pm.

This event is for Emilia, who is bravely fighting acute myeloid leukaemia. She has now found a matching donor in Germany, which is incredible news, but her journey is far from over. She still faces rounds of chemotherapy before undergoing a stem cell transplant.

We want to turn this positive step into something even bigger — by raising awareness and signing up as many potential stem cell donors as possible. You could be the match that saves someone’s life.

Whether you come to support, play, watch, or sign up — your presence matters.

👉 Are you aged between 16-55 years
👉 It only takes a few minutes to join the register
👉 You could give someone a second chance at life

Let’s show Emilia and others like her that they’re not alone.

“Now we have a diagnosis we have to do something to help. There are so many other kids out there who need a match, so we are sharing our experience for Ronnie and to educate people about the lifesaving potential of stem cell transplants.”

Baby Ronnie turned one last weekend, but is already facing one of the toughest situations anyone should have to face.

Having been diagnosed with severe aplastic anaemia, a rare bone marrow disorder, Ronnie is now in need of a stem cell transplant as his best chance of survival.

His family are now calling on anyone eligible to join the stem cell register, and give someone just like their little boy another chance of life.

Ronnie’s mum Laura started to notice that Ronnie was bruising a lot, which she put down to him becoming more mobile. “He had only just started crawling, then three days later when I got him up, he had blood coming from his nose, blisters in his mouth, and red dots on his body.”

The family rushed baby Ronnie to Arrowe Park Hospital where doctors mentioned numerous potential conditions, until more tests revealed he had severe aplastic anaemia.

Now, Ronnie is in and out of hospital, receiving blood infusions twice a week and injections to stimulate bone marrow production, whilst he and his family wait for news of a matching donor.

“We’re sharing Ronnie’s story because we want people to get tested, if a match comes up for him then great, but a match for someone else, that’s amazing as well. Our aim is to raise awareness of aplastic anaemia; no one’s heard of it. And we want to raise awareness of the stem cell register too; how easy it is to join and how simple it is to donate your stem cells and save a life.”

If you’re aged 16-55 years you could be that lifesaving match someone like Ronnie is waiting for. Sign up today at www.raceagainstbloodcancer.com

❤️ ❤️

Many of you will remember our ongoing campaign to find a life-saving stem cell match for John, a blood cancer patient here in Telford.

John is of Jamaican heritage, and sadly patients from ethnic minority backgrounds currently have only a 37% chance of finding a stem cell match. That’s why we continue doing everything we can to raise awareness, encourage registrations, and support patients like John who are still searching for their hero.

Now, a member of John’s family is stepping up in an incredible way. Ben Barrett is taking on his very first half marathon and has chosen to raise money for the charity that is supporting John and others in the same position.

Running 13.1 miles is no small challenge, but Ben is doing it with one goal in mind – helping patients like John get the support, awareness, and donor registrations they desperately need.

If you are able to donate, no matter how big or small, Ben would be incredibly grateful – and so would we. Every contribution helps us continue the fight to find matches for John and others still waiting for their second chance at life.

Please consider supporting Ben and sharing this post to help spread the word. Together we can make a difference. ❤️
