Good behavior awards good health and the moral codes of Satvritti offer a guideline in which to offer ourselves a bit of a self-review.
In most Yoga teacher training, the student is taught the 8 Limbs of Yoga. Helpful philosophical practice and study that show us concrete guidelines for being in relationship to your ego.

Ayurveda excels in clear steps for taking care of the mind through the senses and perceptions.

Harmful behavior has a lot to do with cloudy senses. The senses are how we perceive the truth of the information around us. If we are indulging in excess stimulation or our body is overloaded with impure foods and habits, we limit the clarity of our senses.

That leads to misinformation, misunderstanding and misperceptions. The root of all suffering.

When technology started to blow up, I would often say that we need a modern Emily Post - a guide who would show us how to use a cell phone in public or etiquette on how to use social media.

And I realize the eternal guides who were the sages and good humans in the lineage of Ayurveda are always reliable when we see our social fabrics crumbling in the age of The Great Unraveling.

As a holistic practitioner, one of the things that really frustrates me is hearing when my clients tell me stories of seeking help for pain and injury through their general doctor only to be prescribed anti-depressants (SSRI’s) with some protocol physical therapy that doesn’t address the core problem.

I get it, it’s depressing to face the way pain and injury take over your life. Managing all the appointments, trusting the process even though it takes so much energy to keep everything on track.

I even understand how some drugs address pain in the body through reducing nerve irritation or inflammation.

But all those drugs are just bandaids. They aren’t meant to be a long-term solution.

In fact, when I listened to this evidence of how many people go off of these drugs with so many complicated withdrawal symptoms, I wanted to remind you there are other ways to manage returning to living a better way.

Even though this study points to inconclusive results in the study, it shows how important it is to look closer at this phenomenon.

There are so many questions that need to be asked. Like, why do they work for some people while creating almost manic effects in others?

I’ve seen this firsthand, the side-effects that start to emerge when the drug is not a good match.

In Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, we know that some body types or constitutions need to be considered when finding help with drugs for emotional stress and symptoms.

That’s why looking at the individual is an essential part of problem solving in my approach to lifestyle wellness.

I’ve been reminding mySelf where I come from. How the seeds of healing sprouted into form and practice. How I was shown my gifts and the ways to use them.

As I approach the last day of being 51, I’m reflecting on what I learned in my class and coaching around with the fabulous and best business coach I’ve found: Michelle Smith, moonifestor of the Clarity Room.

Looking at my Gene keys, I have an unusual pattern of 19s. They show up 3 times! 19 in Human Design is Highly sensitive and the shadow is co-dependance (which is another cosmic joke because I’m a mirror twin, I didn’t arrive alone.

It makes me smile when I see the gift of sensitivity. With animals and humans.

Considering my first long-term nature relationship was with the family of rolly-pollies living in our apple orchard on Bainbridge Island.

The animal relationships continued when we moved to Ohio and I started talking to cows. They most certainly talked back. I had so many heartbreaking relationships with sickly babies who came and went.

And then I found out my hands could feel pain. I could zoom right into a place where people needed relief when we sat around giving each other massage after we closed the Coccia House Pizza. That’s where they said, “Hillery, you’re good at this!”.

All along the way, as my Gene Key 19 shows me, is the art of listening. It’s a blessing and a curse. This deep listening comes through my interchangeable senses.

I can feel beyond your words and your tissues.

There are some roles that we have, in this case, I find it unusual for both to be present. I find folks are either Talkers or Listeners.

I am a listener. With my ears, my senses, my sources and my hands.

I started my career working with folks going through cancer treatment. I knew there were ways to help pacify the side-effects. That meant I also witnessed the full experience of what cancer and the treatments do to people. I lost 34 (at last count) friends and family to cancer.

I work for myself, my pricing reflects my equipment, products, skills, experience, and evolution. I’ve been doing this for 20 years- 15 full time. I’ve worked for spas, doctors, yoga studios and myself.

My pricing reflects the total worth of my service. I don’t have pressure to overperform or give extra. Without that pressure, I avoid burnout and the frequency between me and my client is balanced. They know I’m going to help their problem immediately.

Because of my dedication to the art of massage, I devote a huge amount of time and money on polishing my skill set. I go beyond the required continuing education, and I don’t fill up my CEU’s with classes just to fulfill the requirement.

I know what I’m wanting to study and the way that specifically helps what I specialize in: Helping alleviate, support and relieve Complex Chronic Conditions through approaches that consider the whole body/breath/spirit, internal organs, fluid movement, and your lifestyle.

If they came in limping, they’re leaving my room with more alignment and less pain.

I don’t want to throw people off thinking they have to tip on top of my pricing. So when you look at my massage menu with all the options and not decide to schedule with me based on my pricing. Know that you just overlooked the exact help you’re looking for because you assumed I’m too expensive and you had to pay on top of what you see.

Balanced energy centers are essential right now.

Observe, notice, check IN 🧎🏽‍♂️

Yoga’s subtle body anatomy combined with TCM principles of excess and deficiency can show us where things are jammed with too much attraction and aversion.

What are you doing excessively? And what are you repelling? Are those energies really making you happy? From the inside?

When “The World Event” emerged, we experienced no-separation. No[body] was exempt from possible contagion.

Yes, the contagion affected our physical health but the base emotion that made things worse, came from FEAR.

Mary Burmeister, catalyst and teacher of Western Jin Shin Jyutsu practice and philosophy reminds us that F.E.A.R. can present as False Evidence Appearing Real.

This attitude can be examined more through Polyvagal theory and understanding how our perceptions can fool us if our senses are unclear.

W.B. Yeats famously wrote, “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”

I get to read this quote every Wednesday as I walk through my teacher’s gardens on my way out of QiGong practice.

Clear senses are the pathway to clear perceptions. Honesty. With. OurSelves.

The pathway to healing is through your senses.It’s confusing out there.

Seeing the stirring of misperceptions and misunderstandings swell from the Source of FEAR brings suffering.

Discernment requires clear senses to inquire within: “Is this true for me?” “Is this my DIRECT EXPERIENCE?”

We are all a single drop of water existing in the vast ocean.

Our challenge now is to see that we are all one.

To be collectively responsible - able to respond to our environment.

How do we do this when it seems so overwhelming?

Self Help for harmonizing FEAR: Cradle the pelvis.

Hold one hand on your p***c bone and one hand on your tailbone.

Stay and breathe 🫁 for a couple of minutes.

Place your awareness on the main central channel of energy moving up and down your spine.

Do this sequence to clear your Left and Right side channels: Ida 🌕and Pingala ☀️.

Drive and direct the energy to your center.

One of the things I hear from folks is how it’s hard to explain what I do. Look at these slides for a glimpse into what goes into a sesh with me.

That’s because I have a very different way to approach the body.

The modalities I use emerged from the needs of my clients and myself.

Because of my success in breaking through my own chronic pain symptoms, I tend to serve many folks with complex health stories.

Many have long term pain from botched up surgeries, severe accidents, autoimmune disease or MS.

At the time, I needed tools that would keep the person on my table from being triggered into more pain or having to recover from their session.

That’s the trick with chronic illness, people don’t need to recover from their session. Your massage should help you move forward the minute you get off the table.

Over my 20 year career, the work I do is more than massage, it’s more than a rub down.

When you come in, I can sense the pain or restriction in your tissues.

With assessment tools like pulse, tongue and face reading, I can make a plan to get you feeling better with precision and the utmost care.

Your body tells me what to do. And I want you to listen to your body too.

That’s why we use breath coaching and active release to engage more conscious connections so you can steer the outcome.

At this point in my career, I am seeking longevity. I want to be like Ida Rolf, teaching classes well into her 70’s

And that’s what I’m ready to do now, is teach. I studied directly with Brian Utting in Seattle. He taught muscle-specific deep tissue techniques that you don’t find on the East coast.

Because Cortiva bought up so many niche massage schools and diluted the education to simply enable students to pass the exams, the caliber of massage education has changed.

I’m ready to share these modalities that have been at the heart of my practice, helping my clients overcome much pain and immobility.

This time of year feels like a chance to start over. New growth starts to appear everywhere. The air changes, the birds are singing, you can feel the excitement of Spring!

You’re starting to feel more vibrant and energized. Ready to awaken to new routines and health-focused changes.

The residue of Winter may still be hanging on inside your body. You may have needed to hibernate and do less. That’s great! But now you need to help your body process the stagnation of Wintering.

If you don’t detox and open up your channels, literally no changes you make will stick.

Some signs of blocked channels can include:

Getting in ruts with routines
Feeling uninspired
Dull expression
Depression or emotional sensitivity
Build up of fluids - congestion
Dehydration - dry skin
Doughy, dull looking skin
Lack of thirst - inability to process fluids
Loss of motivation
Loss of concentration
Chronic circulatory and digestive issues

These are all signs of low digestive fire. Vitality is too low to spark a complete metabolic process which results in congestion build up. We call this AMA in Ayurveda. It’is basically undigested residue. Post nasal drip, chronic coughing, diarrhea or constipation, and sinus infections all point to a build up of AMA.

If you’re experiencing any of these signs and symptoms, you need to purify your elimination channels.
