MDI Alumni Learning Community A learning and sharing platform for alumni of the Management Development Institute (MDI)

The Management Development Institute (MDI) for Health Care Organisations is a one-week intensive program designed to enhance the leadership and management skills of program managers and leaders of sub-Saharan organisations, governmental and non-governmental, that are devoted to delivering health care services to underserved populations. The program has been designed to specifically assist African ministries of health in implementing their particular national health priorities. Since its inception in 2006, 1,128 participants from 37 African countries have graduated from this program. MDI invites participation of those involved in implementing national health priorities in the areas of communicable diseases and chronic diseases.

Day 4 and 5 highlights

Program for Community Health Systems Strengthening (CHSS) Day 4 was kicked off by the day's rapporteurs Mercy Okoth from Busia county and Raymond Milgo from Kericho who gave a brief summary of Day 3 modules

Community Health Financing as facilitated by Dr. Peter Kithuka. Key concerns in Community Health Financing included:
- Is the distribution of resources equitable?
- Are resources distributed according to need?
- Do provider payments reward efficiency?

Group discussions were moderated by Dr. Abel Nyakiongora on Governance and Ethics in CHS.

Dr. Joash Mageto concluded the session on Operations Management, specifically lean management and process improvement.

Finally, Ms. Nina Ichung’wah facilitated the module on Health Management Information System in CHS

Day 3 Highlights:

Day 3 of the Program for Community Health Systems Strengthening (CHSS) was kicked off by the day's rapporteur Mr. Elijah Oyolla from Kisumu County, assisted by Abdalla Ruto from Kwale County

Friends of Caleb Sunguti Mr. Caleb Sunguti concluded his session with Monitoring and Evaluation Indicators. Participants were taken through the project report components which state the causes and effects of the community health problems

Mr Caleb Sunguti, the Organizational Planning Facilitator, took time from his busy schedule to do an interview. Video will be posted soon.

Christopher Muthama from Makueni County presented a case study on the county's Community Health Service. It has 138 community health units with 4700 CHUs. The CHUs are not on stipend but County govt initiated.

Edna Osebe, Capacity Development Officer, from presented LEAP Health Mobile, an mHealth solution that enables partners and govts to provide health training to CHVs

MDI Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) Program for Community Health Systems Strengthening (CHSS) got off to a great start at the KCB Leadership Centre in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya.

Day 2 highlights:

- Class President was elected unopposed to represent this year's class
- Organizational Planning was the first session by Caleb Sunguti. He is a Senior Lecturer Public Financial Management and Project Management at the Kenya School of Government
- Prof. Charles Mayaka is a faculty coordinator for MDI and also a Facilitator for the Social Marketing for Community Health Systems (CHS) 'Influence may be the highest of human skills'
- Mr Sunguti took time from his busy schedule to do an interview. Video will be posted soon.

MDI Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) Program for Community Health Systems Strengthening (CHSS) got off to a great start at the KCB Leadership Centre in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya.

Day 1 highlights:
All 47 counties were represented.
Margaret Karangatha introduced the program.
Participants were grouped and discussed Community Health Systems (CHS) challenges as facilitated by Dr. Peter Kithuka, and opportunities and got a chance to present.
The program was officially opened by the Cabinet Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Rashid Abdi Aman, BPharm., PhD

MDI is pleased to announce the dates for The Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) Program for Community Health Systems Strengthening (CHSS)

Participants are drawn from all 47 counties in Kenya.

Dates: 17-23 November 2019
Venue: KCB Leadership Centre in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya.
