✅Ken Ivory’s HB317 would help define social health in law and would help protect it in schools. If you can lend support, this bill needs it. Email the house and ask them to vote yes on HB317!

🚨 Legislative Call to Action🚨

SB174 will be in committee on Wednesday morning and would allow for an insurance company to deny coverage and reimbursement for healthcare services, including therapy, if it is against their moral and religious beliefs. This that’s a scary precedent and we are calling on our members to email the Senate Health and Human Services committee to express your concerns. See the comments for a link to the committee information and for a sample letter.

‼️Legislative Alert‼️

We’re tracking SB174. The bill sponsor has said another substitute is pending and he thinks we’ll be happy with it but we encourage everyone to be familiar with this bill and stay tuned for possible action.

🚨URGENT CALL TO ACTION TODAY!!!!! 🚨 HB71 will likely be heard on the House floor this morning at 11 AM. We need everyone to at least email their representative in the house and, ideally, as many representatives as possible. In a not yet published substitute the bill changes the consequence for not responding to an insurance company from a citation against your license to an “educational letter“. The problem is that any letter from DOPL may be considered adverse action from our regulatory body to our malpractice insurance, license portability, interstate compact, etc. We are asking for an amendment to change the “educational letter“ from DOPL to the insurance commission. This would still allow for possible consequences, but from the business regulation side rather than impacting our ability to practice and impeding our livelihoods. Spread the word as much as possible because if we do not get loud today, there’s a good chance this will pass the house.

📣This is one of those small‑actions‑big‑impact moments.

The Department of Education just opened public comments on a proposed student‑loan rule that changes borrowing caps and narrows which programs count as “professional student” for higher limits.

⚠️ The funding implications for behavioral‑health trainees are real.

Utah needs a strong pipeline of well‑trained MFTs serving families, couples, and communities across both rural and urban areas.

Thoughtful policy supports that pipeline.
Rushed policy can unintentionally shrink it.

How to help (in less than 5 minutes):

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/01/30/2026-01912/reimagining-and-improving-student-education

1️⃣ Go to Regulations.gov → search ED‑2025‑OPE‑0944 (“Reimagining and Improving Student Education” (RISE)).

2️⃣ Click Comment and share a short, evidence‑based note about:
• Utah access needs
• Training + supervision costs
• Workforce shortages
• Why behavioral‑health fields need parity in loan‑limit policy

3️⃣ Deadline: March 2, 2026 ⏳

🤍 TAG and SHARE with your fellow mental health therapists across the country. Your voice matters.

📝 Note: The agency’s “professional student” label is purely about loan‑limit eligibility, not about whether we are “professionals.” Still, it impacts who can afford to train. Utah’s lived experience deserves to be on the record.
