Congratulations to our own Diane Morse, MD, who was honored at today's RBJ Healthcare Heroes Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award!

Dr. Morse is an internal medicine physician, associate director of the Office of Health Equity Research housed at our Center, and also leads the WISH-TC (Wellness Initiative Supporting Health Transitions) clinic at Jordan Health, among other roles.

In support of her award nomination, a group of Dr. Morse's students shared, "Dr. Morse imparts on all her students that advocacy is not a passive ideal, but an active practice; it requires putting yourself in the community and being responsive to the needs of the people within it. This is perhaps the most important and cherished lesson we learned in medical school, and one we will carry forward next year as resident physicians in our varied future areas of practice."

We were proud to celebrate Dr. Morse and her dedicated career with her family, community partners, students and friends. Congratulations to all of the awardees! 🎉

Happy Dress in Blue Day! đź’™

Members of our team wear blue in honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and in support of all impacted by colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death for people under 50 and the second deadliest overall.

Colorectal cancer can be prevented. Screening guidelines recommend beginning regular screening at age 45. If you have additional risk factors, you may need to start earlier. Talk with your doctor about the right plan for you.

Don't have health insurance? Call the Cancer Services Program of the Finger Lakes Region at (585) 224-3070 to see if you qualify for free screenings.

Our Story

Making Rochester a Healthier Community Imagine living in one of the healthiest communities in the world. This is the ambitious goal of The Center for Community Health & Prevention. We are at the heart of a community-wide transformation to make Rochester a healthier place to live, learn, work and play. Our mission:To join forces with the community to eliminate health inequalities and improve health through research, education and service. The Center for Community Health & Prevention was established by the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) to develop and expand academic-community health partnerships dedicated to improving the health of our community. It represents a new model of institutional commitment to community health that focuses on prevention. In a pivotal “match making” role, the Center connects URMC faculty, students and staff with community partners. Our shared goals are to increase community services and community-based research to improve health one person, one program, and one policy at a time. Today, community health is formally recognized as the fourth mission of the medical center, alongside research, education and service.
