When bearing weight on the foot becomes unbearable, orthotic practitioners may prescribe a patellar tendon bearing (PTB) orthosis. This device helps shift weight away from the painful foot or ankle and onto the patellar tendon, allowing the foot to unload as much weight as possible.

The goal of this orthosis is to support healing while enabling the patient to continue working and staying mobile.
