I sat down with my son recently and apologized.

Not just a casual “sorry.” A real, deep, from-the-gut moment.

I told him the truth.

Growing up, I felt isolated. Like just another kid in the herd. Unseen. Unheard. And to fill that emptiness? I turned to sweets. Sugar didn’t judge. Sugar didn’t ignore me. Sugar was always there.

And when I became a mom? Instead of breaking the cycle, I repeated it.

I was busy. Distracted. Wrapped up in my own world. And my son? He didn’t get the attention he actually needed. The kind that makes a child feel seen, loved, like they matter.

And guess what? He started doing the exact same thing. Reaching for sweet foods when he felt lonely.

When I told him this, we both cried. He forgave me. Called me the best mom ever. And we made a decision—this cycle ends with us.

A lot of us came here to change the patterns we were raised with. Some of us have already done it. Some of us are still in the thick of it. Either way? It’s not easy.
