Andrea then branched out into Studio based Small Group Classes and in 2020 created and began developing her live online + recordings flexible program. Today in 2023 APT offers a versatile opportunity for anyone anywhere to connect and create their own recipe for happy, healthy movement and join the friendly APT Community - either face to face or online. One on One & Small Groups in 3 Richmond Studio Spaces or live online + recordings, mean that you can find and create what suits you and YOUR life even when you are travelling or away from home. An APT Session or class will build and improve mobility, bodystrength, alignment, flexibility & fitness from where you are NOW - starting with the powerful connection of mind and body. APT specialises in unique balanced challenging & nurturing mindful movement & functional fitness, adaptable to everyone. Drawn from over 30 years experience as a professional classical ballet dancer and theatre production and 15 years as a Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, Mobility Specialist, BODYART Master Trainer & Educator/Presenter. There will be some creative flair & fun (usually with music) in Andreaโ€™s sessions, but always with a mission & clear intention to educate, inspire and empower you.

You can get some decent huffy puffy in a 4 minute tabata, bodystrength exertion in 4 mins, barre mobility in 4 mins & mindful re-balance breathing in 5 mins ๐Ÿ˜Š

Iโ€™ve been writing about health and fitness at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age for about 14 years now. During that time, a body of research has emerged challenging the idea that physical activity has to be long โ€“ or structured โ€“ to be effective.

Some of the findings that stood out to me were:

โœ…๐ŸŒŸ The idea of exercise snacks where we could get bang for buck with just a few minutes of intense exercise. Earlier this year a study found that about five minutes of vigorous intensity, incidental activity every day related to a reduced risk of a serious heart event or death by as much as 38 per cent.

โœ… The understanding that exercise, in any way, shape or form, is integral to mood, mental health and good sleep.

โœ… The knowledge that sitting all day every day is damaging, and is not offset by getting a โ€œproperโ€ workout in.

โœ… And then the appreciation that there is value in incidental activity, and that there is an incremental benefit. Even if we canโ€™t do structured exercise, all the bits of movement we do throughout the day add up. Especially if we incorporate a little huffing and puffing.

โœ… And what helped me to overcome the guilt of taking a lunch break on work days to go for a walk or to exercise was research finding that exercise improves our cognitive function at work, including attention, working memory and problem-solving.

โœ… There are also studies that show acute bursts of vigorous activity lower the markers of stress โ€“ things like blood pressure, cortisol levels, heart rate โ€“ and enable us to cope better with external stressors.
