It is a 25 bed speciality psychiatric nursing home managed by the Mindcare Institute of MHBS. It was time to have a group interaction with our very own enthusiastic group of Seniors Citizens. This was arranged as part of the mental health campaign by Vishwas - a Mind Care Initiative with the launch of a series of photographs on psychiatric disorders shot by maverick ideator and ace fashion photographer Somsubhro Sarkaar () He joined by Dr. Karthik Rao, Consultant Psychiatrist and director Vishwas Mind Care Institute.
We discussed about common psychological problems in the elderly. Namely Dementia, Loneliness, Depressive Disorder, Panic Disorders, Anxiety related to chronic medical illness like Diebetes and Hypertension. The difference between normal ageing and dementia was discussed. The importance of family, social networks, yoga, exercise and other hobbies like music was emphasized.

Interesting talk on the importance of physical fitness and mental health with Dr. Karthik Rao, Consultant Psychiatrist and director Vishwas Mind Care Institute, Ishan Varma, founder at TC1 i-motion EMS India and Debanshi, Yoga Instructor. Psychosomatic symptoms are commonly seen in depressed people like headache, backache and fatigue. Medications and counselling will treat the depressive disorder But physical fitness routines can help as an add on during the treatment phase. Also this can play a role in prevention of mental illness as part of healthy life practices. Ishan explained about the benefits of Electric Muscular Stimulation. Debanshi spoke about how Yoga helped improve both the physical and mental health in her students.
