Song of the White Wolf

Under a sky stitched with countless fires,
a white wolf lifts his throat to the Great Mystery—
and the night becomes a drumskin,
tight with listening,
ready to carry the song.

Behind him, a circle of star-marks turns,
like an old medicine wheel drawn in light,
reminding the world:
every direction holds a teaching,
every season returns
with a different kind of courage.

Below, three wolves stand on the ridge—
dark as river-shadow,
steady as ancestors’ footsteps—
their voices rising together
not for loneliness,
but for belonging.

They say the wolf is a teacher of the people:
how to stay loyal to the living,
how to travel with respect,
how to share the hunt of hardship
and still leave something
for the next breath of life.

I hear my own heart inside their chorus—
the part of me that learned to be quiet
so pain wouldn’t notice,
the part of me that carried loss
like a hidden bundle
tied too tight.

But the wolves do not hide the song.
They lift it.
They give it to the sky
the way elders give tobacco—
with honesty,
with gratitude,
with tears that are not shame.

Earth Mother holds the mountain steady.
Sky Father holds the stars like witnesses.
And somewhere between them,
the ancestors lean close
to braid our broken voices
back into one.

If you are grieving,
do not swallow your howl.
Let it rise through your ribs

Pink Dawn, Winter Prayer

Winter held the forest in its quiet fists,
snow breathing slowly between the trees.
She stood where the cold gathered its thoughts,
her shadow stitched into ice and water,
listening for a reason to remain.

The night had been long
full of questions that circled like wolves,
full of memories that cracked like frozen branches.
Yet she stayed,
because staying is sometimes an act of faith.

Then the dawn arrived,
not loud, not certain
just a soft pink promise
slipping through the bare limbs of the world.
It touched the snow,
and the snow remembered warmth.

She felt it before she named it:
a small fire waking in her chest,
the kind her ancestors spoke of
hope that does not shout,
hope that survives by enduring.

The elders say the sun returns
because it is called.
That morning,
her heart was the call.

In the mirror of water at her feet,
the sky leaned down and met her gaze.
Winter did not end,
but it loosened its grip.

And in that pale pink light,
she understood
even in the coldest season,
the earth still chooses to begin again.

Be True to You

Do not exhaust yourself
in an endless effort
to meet the expectations of others
that were never yours
to begin with.

Each concession may seem small,
even noble,
but over time
they hollow you out,
leaving behind
a version of yourself
that is palatable to everyone
and known by no one,
including you.

Gradually,
you begin to lose sight
of the person you truly are.

Not through one great sacrifice,
but through a thousand subtle adjustments:
the softened opinion,
the swallowed need,
the instinct to be easier,
quieter,
more agreeable.

You begin to confuse
survival with kindness,
self-abandonment with grace.

The world rewards your compliance,
and in doing so,
teaches you to shrink.

But there is a cost
to this constant accommodation.
The body remembers
what the mind tries to justify.

Fatigue settles
where joy once lived.

Resentment grows
where generosity
used to flow freely.

You start to feel
like a guest in your own life,
performing a role
rather than inhabiting a truth.

At some point,
you may decide
to stop performing your life
and start living it.

Some people step into our lives
without ever realizing the weight of what they carry.

There comes a time in life when the chase for excitement and noise fades away, leaving a sense of calm in its place.
Social gatherings, once vibrant and full of energy, begin to feel less appealing. The pressure to engage in light chatter and pretend to care about topics that no longer spark joy can feel like an exhausting obligation. Instead, the quiet moments at the end of the day become something to cherish.
Being with people who accept you without masks and expectations creates a safe space where true feelings can flourish.
In this small circle, each person is there by choice, not out of a need to fit in. These genuine connections allow us to support one another and simply exist as we are, free from judgment.
