The Arkansas HIV Planning Group as a collaborative entity and partner with the Arkansas Department of Health's HIV/TB/ Hep C Section is charged with the mission to decrease the number of Arkansans who become diagnosed with HIV. We serve to decrease stigmas, provide knowledge and education, and help those living with HIV reach an undetectable status and stay there. To these means, AHPG moved forward with a planning process to address challenges, barriers and social determinants that impact those living with HIV and AIDS. The primary purpose of the AHPG is to collaborate and participate in the development of a comprehensive plan for the prevention of HIV transmission utilizing the tenants of the National HIV AIDS Strategy and guidance from the Center for Disease Control. As a collective body, AHPG will identify precedence in HIV prevention needs based on priority targeted populations. Such populations should be approached through "high impact" prevention modes that ensure that HIV prevention resources are directed to these priority targeted populations culminating in efficient and focused outcomes. AHPG encourages reduce reporting documentation, streamlining communications, coordination and implementation of needed services including mental health and substance abuse, across the continuum of HIV prevention, care and treatment services. Our concurrence of the states Jurisdictional Plan was decided by the voting body on August 9, 2013, during our update retreat in the auditorium of the Arkansas Department of Health. The vote was unanimous.

It was such an amazing event with amazing people! Each year they offer HIV testing and education... This year they included Hepatitis C and STD testing as well! Shoutout to our partners Engaging Arkansas Communities and ARcare who were also there.

A few example talking points:
-What do you know about HIV/AIDS in general, and in our state?
-Are you aware the HIV laws in our state have not been changed since 1989? Don't you think that should be updated?

👉 DYK? Nearly 1 in 5 people in the U.S. have a sexually transmitted infection (STI) 👈
However, STIs are not inevitable, and they can be prevented and treated! Make a plan and choose the prevention steps that work for you with Prepare Before You’re There. Take this brief, interactive quiz to get started.

This quiz will help you know if you may be at risk for an STI. If you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you may want to talk with a healthcare provider to learn more about your risk and find out if you need to be tested for STIs.

Monkeypox is not a gay disease and neither are any other infectious diseases. Stigma directed at a particular group of individuals fuels fear and hampers public health interventions.
We must not repeat the mistakes of the past. Let's break the cycle of stigma!

Currently, the risk of getting monkeypox for most people in the United States is low. However, cases are on the rise and anyone in close, skin-to-skin, face-to-face, or sexual contact with a person with monkeypox can get it. If you or someone you know has come in contact with an individual with monkeypox, please contact your provider or visit a local Health Department!

We must provide support and guidance grounded in empathy and not fear. We must not repeat the mistakes of the past
