Join us in congratulating Delaine Fredlund for being selected as a recipient of the 2025 SE Health First Nations, Inuit and Métis Health Services Scholarship! ✨

Delaine was born and raised in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, and is currently taking her Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences at Dalhousie University. Her interest in healthcare started early in life, often expressing her desire to help her people. She believes in a two-eyed approach and the importance of Traditional healing in healthcare. Her Amuaq’s (great grandfather’s) stories and love for the land and community are what motivate her.

We wish you success in all your future educational and career endeavors, Delaine!

We are extremely proud to announce that the SE Health FNIM Indigenous Patient Navigation Program is now fully accredited by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA-AIIC)!

The Indigenous Patient Navigation program equips participants with foundational knowledge and skills needed to navigate and understand how Indigenous Patient Navigator (IPN) roles work within the healthcare team to reduce barriers and support health equity to improve outcomes for patients and their families. The program guides participants through the IPN competencies to strengthen skills that will be used to advocate for and support a culturally safe environment for Indigenous Peoples across Canada.

Here's what some of our learners had to say about the IPN program:

✨️"It helped define the role of our IPN."

✨️"Very informative, resourceful, and it assisted navigating NIHB."

✨️"It's a wonderful course with excellent presenters. I thoroughly enjoyed the program."

⭐️ Nationally recognized CPD hours that support professional growth and lifelong learning;

⭐️ Education that has undergone a rigorous, independent quality review;

⭐️ Learning experiences designed to be culturally relevant, practical, and grounded in current evidence;

⭐️ Increased confidence that the program aligns with Canadian nursing practice standards.

The SE Health First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Program, together with the Saint Elizabeth Foundation, is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Health Services Scholarship – Working Together for Indigenous Health!

This annual $5,000 scholarship supports Indigenous students enrolled in full time, certified post-secondary health profession programs across Canada. Its purpose is to empower students on their educational journeys and strengthen healthcare and wellness services for Indigenous communities nationwide.

These scholarships reflect SE Health’s longstanding commitment to collaborating with Indigenous communities and enhancing opportunities for Indigenous learners. We recognize the systemic barriers and financial challenges that many Indigenous students continue to face when pursuing careers in health. By investing in these future healthcare leaders, SE Health is supporting the next generation of Indigenous professionals who are dedicated to giving back to their communities.

Please join us in extending our heartfelt congratulations to the 2025 scholarship recipients! Visit our website to learn more about them: https://fnim.sehc.com/scholarship/2025-scholarship-winners/

Today, on International Mental Health Nurses Day, we acknowledge and thank all of the Mental Health Nurses who dedicate their lives to patient care, advocacy and the advancement of mental health practices across Canada.

We are so grateful to the Mental Health Nurses supporting Indigenous Peoples across Canada with safe and culturally appropriate care, who statistically experience mental health challenges at a significantly higher rate than the general Canadian population.

The role of Mental Health Nurses regularly extends beyond direct care, with Mental Health Nurses often working as mentors, educators and advocates. Mental health challenges continue to affect people across all walks of life, and the role of mental health nursing is more critical now than ever. We are deeply appreciative to all of the Mental Health Nurses for their resilience, compassion and continued advocacy for patients.💗

Today we celebrate International Mother Languages Day, acknowledging and celebrating the beauty of linguistic and cultural diversity!

First proclaimed by UNESCO and later adopted by the UN General Assembly, International Mother Languages Day acknowledges the role of language in promoting inclusion, and notes that multilingual education not only promotes inclusive societies, but also aids in preserving non-dominant, minority and Indigenous languages and cultures.

Our diverse team comes from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, with the languages of our people and families shared in the visual above. Though fluency may vary, we recognize the importance that language plays in our experience of identity, and celebrate the connection to our cultures through language.

Check out the second image to see some language lessons from members of our team! In honour of heart month, we've shared different ways to express love in different languages. 🩷
