BSACI statement on patients with Allergy - COVID-19 vaccination with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine

"The MHRA has also adopted a very risk-averse approach, recommending that for now the vaccine is not offered to anyone reporting a history of immediate-onset anaphylaxis to a vaccine, medicine or food.

We acknowledge that while the cause of these reactions has not been confirmed, there is a need for such caution.

As we develop a better understanding of the reactions that have happened it is important that the advice rapidly evolves to focus on a tighter definition of the at-risk group.

If not, this advice would risk causing unnecessary anxiety within the allergy community. It would result in patients who are not at an increased risk being denied access to a potentially life-saving vaccine.

We are thus committed to continuing to work with the MHRA and NHS leadership to support their decision making, on the basis of independent and expert advice."

The first-ever drug allergy clinic in a state institution started at our Allergy centre today. We will continue to offer this service every Friday. We are ready to accept any patient with suspected drug allergy to our unit.

Prior appointment is mandatory for testing as we need careful preparation. Call 0115016914 for an appointment for a drug Allergy consultation.

Thank you very much for the team.

Save a Life project - Is a project by the National Center for Primary Care and Allergy Research (NCP CAR) of University of Sri Jayewardenapura

Save Life project aims at investigating an individual suspected to have experienced anaphylaxis (severe allergy condition) and providing life-saving medication (Adrenalin autoinjectors) free of charge.

Thus, the availability of this drug has given quality life to a person who is experiencing anaphylaxis. This project aims at having zero deaths due to anaphylaxis by 2025 in Sri Lanka. For the past year, we have distributed 100 adrenalin autoinjectors to our dear Sri Lankans

The revenue generated will be utilized to the "Save a Life" project of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. It’s to purchase life-saving medicine to people who suffer from anaphylaxis.

please join hand with us to "save a life."
