🌡️ Heatwave conditions are forecast for the region today and in the coming days. 🌡️
Here's some advice from our friends at Queensland Health:
👉 Stay hydrated. Drink water (between 6-8 glasses each day).
👉 Stay out of the sun.
👉 Avoid or reduce strenuous activities.
👉 Remain indoors (preferably in air-conditioning). If you don’t have air conditioning at home, find somewhere like the shops, movies or library.
👉 Look after others (like the elderly, pregnant or young kids).
👉 Don’t leave children or pets in parked cars.
👉 Store food and medication at a safe temperature.
👉 Plan ahead if the electricity goes out.
👉 If you have to go outside, be sun safe by wearing a hat, long sleeves and light clothing, seeking shade where possible and applying sunscreen every two hours.
Extreme heat can affect anybody. It can also make existing medical conditions worse and can cause heat-related illness.
If you, or a person you know is showing signs of heat stroke, call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for advice or visit your doctor. If it is an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Beaudesert Hospital’s Administration team are happy little Vegemites after being crowned winners of the hospital’s annual Christmas Decorating Competition. ⭐

With this year’s Around the World theme, the Admin team transformed their space into an Aussie outback, complete with Vegemite, beaches and iconic animals. 🦘 They also paid tribute to our friends across the ditch, with Kiwi classics helping secure the win.

Oral Health was highly commended for its African-inspired display, with Pharmacy, as part of the General Ward, also recognised for its North America-themed decorations.

Well done to all teams for spreading festive cheer throughout the hospital! 💝

Move over Dasher and Dancer, Noodle and Pedro have taken centre stage in the Children’s Inpatient Unit at Logan Hospital! 🦙✨

The alpaca duo trotted in this week, bringing smiles and laughter to young patients needing a welcome distraction from hospital life.

First to meet the four-legged visitors was nine-year-old Henry, who even scored a whiskery kiss on the forehead from one of his new furry friends.

Originally from Tonga, Henry had never seen alpacas before, making the visit an extra special surprise as he recovers on the ward following chemotherapy treatment for a brain tumour.

18-year-old Tanesha Lees was also delighted by a bedside visit, with Pedro clearly enjoying the attention just as much as she did.

Acting Nurse Unit Manager Emma Flannelly said these visits are always a hit, bringing moments of joy, comfort and connection to patients during challenging times.

Christmas has come early at QEII Hospital this year, where patients at Ward 4B received a sweet surprise. 🎁

This month, past patient and local school Deputy Principal, Naveen, returned to the ward with a heart full of gratitude and arms full of festive surprises. 💐

After her own health journey in 4B earlier this year, Naveen was inspired to give back, bringing vibrant bouquets and handwritten Christmas cards lovingly created by her students.

“Hearing the diverse perspectives of individuals on their unique journeys was enlightening. I hope these interactions and gestures have helped the patients build resilience and confidence during their most troublesome times," she said.

Nurse Unit Manager Ward 4B, Kelly Rose said the gift was a source of comfort and joy to those spending the festive season in hospital.

A huge shout-out to Naveen, her students, and the incredible 4B team for showing what true patient-centred care and community spirit look like this Christmas season. 🎄✨

The PA Hospital Nurse Practitioner workforce is being celebrated for the impactful patient care they provide across a growing portfolio every day. 👏

PAH has more than 30 NP’s covering the specialties of diabetes and endocrine, nephrology, oncology, haematology and stem cell, palliative care, aged care, neurology, dementia and delirium, cardiology, trauma, toxicology, melanoma, plastics, dermatology, emergency equivalent care for Residential Aged Care and the new specialty of ENT.

Chair of the Metro South Health Nursing and Midwifery Advanced Practice Committee, Erin Cranitch said the progression of the NP profession means there are exciting improvements to advanced practice pathways.

“Our committee is focused on improving the Nurse Practitioner career pathway by emphasising the importance of strong partnerships,” Erin said at the MSH Nurse Practitioner Planning Day this December.

“By encouraging collaboration between NPs, healthcare services, and managers, the goal is to create a more seamless pathway for NPs to benefit those they work with.”

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are the highest qualified clinical nurse in Australia with a master’s degree and an extended scope of practice allowing them to independently assess, diagnose, order, and interpret tests, prescribe medications and provide referrals to other health professionals.

We asked everyone’s favourite question, ‘give us a fun fact’. 🫠

When the team at Meadowbrook Health Centre Minor Injury and Illness Clinic (MHCMIIC) aren’t searching for their next golden-brown pastry, they’re providing care and compassion to patients at the clinic. 🫶

MHCMIIC opened earlier this year. It treats injuries and illness that aren’t life-threatening.

You can visit for:
👉 sprains and strains
👉 minor burns and scalds
👉 fevers, coughs and colds
👉 grazes and splinters
👉 insect bites and stings
👉 foreign objects in the ears or nose
👉 minor infections.

The clinic is open 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

If your injury or illness is life-threatening, you should always call Triple Zero (000) or visit an emergency department. 🏥
