Fatal Crash on Lewiston Road Claims Lives of Three Spotsylvania High School Seniors

Spotsylvania County, VA - On March 27, 2026, at approximately 11:46 p.m., deputies with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, along with Spotsylvania Fire Rescue, responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 5300 block of Lewiston Road.

Upon arrival, deputies located a single vehicle involved in the crash with three occupants. Tragically, all three occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, along with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), responded and initiated an extensive investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that a 2002 Mercedes coupe left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The three victims, ages 18, 17, and 17, were all seniors at Spotsylvania High School set to graduate in the coming months. Next of kin notifications have been made, and Spotsylvania County Public Schools have been notified of the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.

The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and the entire school community affected by this tragic loss. The loss of three young lives with such promising futures is a profound tragedy for all of Spotsylvania County.

Please remember you are never alone!

The Greenville Rescue Squad honors the life and service of EMT Lee Roush, who stood with us during a pivotal chapter in our agency’s history. Lee was among those who helped shape our transition to a career-staffed department, bringing not only skill and professionalism but also a willingness to teach, guide, and lift others along the way.

His confidence on scene, his dedication to the craft of EMS, and his gift for making people laugh—even in the toughest moments—left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege to work beside him. His smile was contagious, his sense of humor unforgettable, and his presence reassuring.

Lee also proudly served our country as a Navy Engineman, continuing a life defined by service, integrity, and strength.

We will remember Lee not only for the EMT he was, but for the friend and teammate he became. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this time.

Fair winds and following seas, Lee. Your impact lives on
