✨ Kundalini Yoga — The Yoga of Awareness✨

Kundalini is often referred to as the “curl of the lock of the beloved”-representing a coiled, sacred energy at the base of the spine, waiting to awaken and move from root to crown and stimulating the chakras to unite you with your higher self🪷

Kundalini Yoga is one of the most ancient forms of yoga, rooted in the early Ta***ic traditions long before modern yoga existed.

This practice works from the inside out. Kundalini uses breathwork, kriyas (specific sequences), mantra, mudra, bandhas, drishti, and meditation to clear energetic blocks and strengthen the nervous system. The experience is powerful, uplifting, and deeply transformative—helping you reconnect with intuition, vitality, and inner clarity.

Where Hatha builds steadiness in the body, Kundalini ignites the spark within. ⚡️

Where other styles create strength and flexibility, Kundalini cultivates consciousness, radiance, resilience, and presence. 🧘‍♀️ (and strength and flexibility 🤩)

It’s a practice that wakes you up—physically, mentally, and spiritually—helping you remember who you are beneath the noise of everyday life.
This is yoga in its most ancient and energetic form.

I recently added this class to my schedule and the first question out of students mouths was what is Hatha Yoga?

My answer? You’ve already been doing it.🤩
Hatha Yoga is the ancient system of yoga that prepares the body and mind for higher states of meditation. 🪷

Through the practice of asanas (postures), pranayama (breath control), mudras (hand gestures), and bandhas (energy locks), the practitioner purifies the body, steadies the mind, and awakens prana (life force).✨

It is a path of discipline and balance, uniting strength, flexibility, and awareness to cultivate harmony between body, mind, and spirit. 💜

All of the forms of yoga we practice in the West today comes from Hatha:

🌿 Major lineages/styles that come from Hatha Yoga

1) Kundalini Yoga 🔥🔥
Kundalini — the concept of a dormant spiritual energy at the base of the spine — appears in very early yogic and Ta***ic texts, long before Hatha Yoga was formalized.🔥It is ancient and rooted in early Ta**ra and Upanishadic teachings. It is referred to as the Mother of All Yoga and
Hatha Yoga was created as a method to awaken and channel Kundalini.

2) Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Founded by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Faster-paced, athletic, structured series — but rooted in traditional Hatha principles of breath, bandhas, and drishti.

3) Iyengar Yoga
Founded by B.K.S. Iyengar. Deeply aligned, precise, uses props — all built on classical Hatha postures and philosophy.

4) Vinyasa Flow
Evolved from Ashtanga. Creative sequencing linked with breath, but still grounded in Hatha asanas.

5) Sivananda Yoga
A classical lineage founded by Swami Sivananda & Swami Vishnudevananda. Directly rooted in traditional Hatha: postures, pranayama, relaxation, and meditation.

6) Bikram / Hot Yoga
Uses 26 Hatha postures and pranayama in a heated room.

7) Yin Yoga & Restorative Yoga
Although modern adaptations, they still arise from the Hatha foundation of asana, breath, and energetic balance.

8) Ta**ra Hatha / Traditional Himalayan lineages

I’d love to share this sacred practice with you and help you connect deeper with the importance of why we practice yoga in the first place💜

🌿 Gentle Flow & Restore. Sundays 5-6pm

Our modern lives are busy, noisy, and often overstimulating—leaving our nervous systems on high alert. Gentle Flow & Restore is a practice designed to slow everything down, help your body release tension, and bring your nervous system back into balance.

In this class, we move mindfully through gentle postures, stretch and open tight areas, and settle into longer restorative holds. The combination of breath, slow movement, and stillness activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping reduce stress, calm the mind, and support emotional resilience.

This practice is perfect for anyone needing to recharge, reset, and reconnect with their body. You’ll leave feeling grounded, restored, and fully present—ready to meet the world from a place of calm and clarity. 🌸✨

After a hurricane forced absence from teaching Kundalini for the last year…I’m back baby! 🤩

I’m returning with a full heart and a clearer sense of purpose. Even though it was an unexpected pause due to the circumstances of Helene, the pause reminded me how powerful this practice is-how it shifts energy, deepens intuition, and reconnects us to our own inner strength.✨

I am so grateful to bring this sacred practice to on Mondays at 8:30am.

Thursday the 20th I am honored to step in and sub for my teacher, Bob, from 6-7:15.🔥

I can’t hold back my excitement and I just have to share!

One thing you may not know about me is that I am thirsty for knowledge, and I love to keep learning more and more about the body. 🧍‍♀️

I am super excited that yesterday was officially my first day of another one year coaching program with the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy.

I couldn’t be more excited that I get to dive deeper into learning more about the body and how to help more people on their wellness journeys.

I have wanted to take this program for many years, as Functional Medicine helped heal me on my own health journey.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the opportunity to be able to take this training and to further my education in order to be able to help more people improve their health and lifestyles.

Rest assured, as I go down this path I’ll be happy to share more and more on this platform on how to work with your own body, and how to improve your health as a whole 🌸

Here’s to another year of education! Let’s GOOOOOO!💫

HUGE CLIENT WIN!!🔥🎉👏🥳

I got this text from my client Jessica yesterday and it BLEW me away!

This amazing woman has had such a mindset shift in the last 8 weeks since we started working together.

When we had our first session Jessica told me she was dreading buying smaller clothes because she didn’t trust that this would work and be sustainable.

She had been wearing very baggy clothes to work and many of her coworkers were encouraging her to buy clothes that fit.

She resisted because she didn’t trust that she would lose this weight.

Her goal was to lose 15 to 20 pounds in the 12 weeks that we would be working together.

She’s already lost 11.5 lbs just two months in. She’s prepared to keep going and continue improving her health.

I couldn’t be more proud of the work that she has done and how she has applied what she has learned in my program to her daily life.

She shared with me on the phone yesterday that her husband has also lost weight due to the changes in her food prep. That’s pretty amazing as he began a career as a long haul truck driver just a few months ago. Definitely the opposite of what usually happens with truck drivers!

I love that not only is she changing her own health, but her husband is making the changes as well. Of course, she does food prep for him so he is not subjected to road food as I like to call it.

Maybe the most important part of this conversation is that she is gaining confidence galore.

Absolutely warms my heart on so many levels to see someone take control of their health and have it improve so drastically that she learns how to trust her body once again.

Also, update! She went back to the store with the jumpsuit and the owner of the store convinced her to get it and gave her a 50% discount because of how beautiful she looked in it!
How often does that happen?

Keep going Jessica I’m so proud of you and happy to be a witness on your journey!💜

Waking up on this cold morning with a childlike excitement I have not felt in a few years now. The last few years have been damn hard, friends. For all of us, I know. For me, whew it’s been a doozy. We all lost some thing, parts of ourselves, time we can’t get back, experiences we missed out on. I personally lost a lot of friends and community. I lost years of building my classes, volunteering with people in recovery who really needed support and connection, years of my own learning from other teachers. Sure the Internet helped, I continue to study in practice. But I’ve been missing other people, connection and community. Hearing live conversations around me, the energy that People share during a practice together. I missed hugs! Oh my gosh, hugs! That itself brings so much to the surface.

Well after almost 3 years, tonight I step back on the mat in this amazing studio, Black Mountain Yoga. I would be honored if you came and practiced with me this evening from 6:45 to 8 o’clock for a Gentle Flow and Yin class. And maybe a hug or ten!😘

You can sign up at www.blackmountainyoga.com or just show up!

Just came out of the woods after celebrating my 45th revolution around the sun last Thursday. I was lucky to carve out four days off of all responsibilities to rest, rejuvenate, smile, laugh, play, paddle board, swim, hike, have fun, share with my best friends- my amazing dog Luna and my dear friend Kevin (Lunas dad. Luna must’ve thought it was her birthday too-camping with her human parents is always a great time!)

Entering my mid forties has been full of realizations and a lot of processing. I have spent a large portion of my life healing from physical ailments that have ran a huge part of my life. Every time I felt better, a new issue would appear. Years of unnecessary antibiotics and garbage food I was fed at early ages, followed by decades of stress and PTSD from early childhood traumas and from my ex-husband, not to mention years of unhappy work environments-full of toxic chemicals and people, the toll literally trashed my GI system to the point of extreme leaky gut and malnourishment and a hellacious Candida overgrowth that has been a real nightmare to treat. I’m on the upside though after having an amazing team on my side guiding me through treatment and a rebuilding of my micro biome. (Even health coaches need guidance sometimes!)

I’m on the upswing though! I’ve made peace with my childhood past and forgave my parents-(even recently saw my father for the first time in 20 years!), letting go of “friends” I did all the work to stay connected to, rebuilding my friend circles with people who share the load of making plans and connections, restructured my professional life to remove working with other people-this was huge!, created a life full of rest and as little stress as possible (during the most stressful two years of a pandemic no less!!), implemented a regular strength training regimen, and enjoying nourishment from small, organic farms near me.

Health and Wellness comes in many different shapes and forms. It’s not all about how you appear on the outside. The inside is so much more important. I may be in the best shape I’ve ever been in physically in my 45 years, but more importantly, I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in on the inside too💜

One of my favorite Ram Dass quotes that has always stuck with me: If I go into the place in myself that is love, and you go into the place in yourself that is love, we are together in love. Then you and I are truly in love, the state of being love. That's the entrance to Oneness.

So grateful to have this earth angel to walk with me on this path.

Ladies, when your man sends you an article about Common Signs of Hormonal Imbalances, what would you expect your first reaction to be?

“WTF? Just wait until I get my hands on him! Is he trying to say I’m crazy?!”

That more than likely would have been my initial thought, but in this case, it just means my sweet guy has been LISTENING to me! I’m being heard and validated that menopause is FOR REAL!

Kevin has listened to podcasts and read articles I’ve sent him so that he can also understand what is happening to me. He doesn’t complain that the bedroom is 64° at night and that I’ll rip the covers off in the middle of the night during a hot flash. Add to it the anxiety that accompanies the hot flash! He has gotten up with me and supported me in the times of having a near panic attack at 2 AM. For no other reasons, then the drop in hormones as I round the corner towards menopause. Fun, right?!

It is up to us to educate our men so that they know how to support us during all of the wonderful changes these magical little temples go through during our life cycle. You can’t blame them. They aren’t in the same body. They may act like they don’t want to know, but you might be surprised how receptive they are.

Anyone out there hot flashing with the summer approaching? 😳🤦🏼‍♀️

Today has been such an affirmation of why I became a Yoga Instructor and more recently, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.

Today I got to present an online Stress Management and Self-Care workshop to an amazing group of people here in North Carolina. Each year, full and part-time AmeriCorps members help increase the capacity of local nonprofits and school partners by providing a year of service to support the community and more than 1,000 at-risk youth in Buncombe County.

It is so incredibly easy to put other people, especially children and their needs in front of our own. These AmeriCorps members have spent a very difficult year providing service during the pandemic in various ways in the community. Today I got to teach them about the importance of self-care and how to manage stress in a healthy way. A reminder to put the oxygen mask on themselves first, in order to care for the person next to them.

Today to end our workshop, I shared one of my favorite stress relievers: Shaking. Yep, shaking. Literally starting with the feet, one at a time. Then the legs and then shaking the hips and then shaking the arms and the hands. And then finally letting the whole body go including jumping up and down and fluttering the lips. You really can’t screw it up or do it wrong. And it feels so good!

What’s your favorite self care or stress relieving go to?
