Formed in 2004, SEWA-AIFW is a non-governmental, nonprofit 501c3 organization committed to bringing total family wellness to the South Asian Indian community and serving the vulnerable among this group. The South Asian population is the second largest Asian group in Minnesota, with an estimated population of 82,000+ (of which 52,000+ are of Indian descent) and includes those from India, Pakistan,

Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, as well as those of South Asian descent from Trinidad, Guyana, and other Caribbean nations.

Our healthy relationships curriculum empowers immigrant and refugee communities to set boundaries, communicate consent, and identify healthy relationships. We're proud to engage men in ending violence and promoting a culture of respect and empathy. We had such a meaningful and memorable time attending API Day yesterday at the State Capitol alongside our seniors! It was an inspiring day filled with powerful speeches from community leaders, opportunities to connect with fellow organizations, and engaging conversations that highlighted the importance of representation and advocacy. Our group also had the chance to meet with a representative from the Senate building, making the experience even more impactful. To top it all off, we shared a wonderful lunch together, strengthening connections and community spirit. A heartfelt thank you to the State Capitol for the invitation and for creating space to celebrate and uplift API voices!

SEWA was honored to address the Minnesota Senate Committee on Jobs and Economic Development on Monday, March 16. Our CEO Anjuli Mishra Cameron was able to share the important workforce development programs that SEWA has led, providing financial stability support to over 100 South Asian families in 2025. Thank you to Senator Susan Pha for carrying this critical legislation to support our communities at a time when families are struggling with affordability and job security. We are deeply grateful to Sen. Bobby Joe Champion and the members the Committee for hearing the bill and their continued work to support the economic outlook of Minnesotans.

Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and many families spend time near water—at lakes, pools, and beaches. In many immigrant families, adults may not have learned how to swim or may not feel confident teaching their children water safety. This class creates a supportive space where parents and children can learn simple, lifesaving water safety skills together. Learning as a family builds confidence and helps keep our children safe while enjoying Minnesota’s waters.

We are proud to celebrate our very own Dasharath Yata on receiving the “Champion of Community Wellness Award” at the Telugu Association of Minnesota’s Ugadi Festival on March 21, held at Jefferson School. This well-deserved recognition reflects not only his leadership, but also the impactful work of SEWA-AIFW in serving and uplifting the South Asian community. This honor highlights a shared commitment to service, beautifully captured in the message, “Service to humanity is service to God.” We extend our sincere congratulations to Dasharath and gratitude to the SEWA team and community partners whose continued support makes this work possible.
