Suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll on family, friends, co-workers, and the entire community. AFSP provides opportunities for survivors of suicide loss to get involved through a wide variety of educational, outreach, and awareness efforts. AFSP’s growing network of more than 50 local chapters nationwide join together those who have lost someone to suicide, individuals with mental disorders and their families, mental health professionals, community and business leaders, and others interested in preventing suicide. Our chapter volunteers deliver innovative prevention programs to schools and businesses, reach out to survivors of suicide loss, organize fundraising events, and act as a go-to resource for their entire community. They are at the forefront of increasing the public’s awareness of suicide as a public health issue that is preventable. Please join us today to help build a world without suicide.

Yesterday was an incredible day in Jefferson City at our Missouri State Capitol for our annual Advocacy Action Day! Our advocates shared their stories, shared pictures of their loved ones, brought awareness to 988 bills, co-response bills and su***de prevention education for educators bills. It’s always a heavy day but they gave it their all and were a voice themselves, those struggling and those no longer with us.

Thank you to all the legislators and staff who took time out of their very busy day to meet with us and listen to us!

A HUGE shoutout and thank you to our incredible advocates! We can’t do the work we do with YOU! You are special, you matter and you are so worthy! Thank you for all you do!!

If in crisis please call, text or chat 988 24/7 365 You matter!

In Jefferson City today our advocates were advocating for permanent, sustainable 988 funding, Behavioral Health Co-Response Teams & Training and School Personnel Training with their legislators. Thank you to all those that showed up and used their voices to further this vital work.

Construction workers build our roads, bridges, and communities. It’s time we help build hope within the workforce.

According to CDC data, the construction and extraction industries have the highest rate of su***de among occupational groups in the U.S. That’s why AFSP Missouri Chapter’s Construction Hike for Hope is dedicated to improving mental health in the construction industry through education, prevention, and empowering mental health champions on every job site.

Join us for a meaningful day outdoors as we honor those affected, raise awareness, and walk together toward change.

Let’s build a culture where asking for help is strength.

Today we had the privilege of being joined by 17 leaders from across the construction industry, along with professionals who support and work alongside the field, for our Hard Hat Courage Information Breakfast focused on su***de prevention.

The morning was led by incoming Board Member and Chair of our Construction Initiatives, Tim Rowden, whose leadership helped spark meaningful conversations about how we can better support mental health within the construction community.

This gathering created valuable opportunities for connection and collaboration, and we are grateful to everyone who took the time to be part of this important conversation. We look forward to continuing to grow this work and expanding these efforts across Missouri.

Together, we can build stronger supports for those who build our communities.

This weekend was about team building and planning for the next year. We are excited to keep our momentum going and keep growing our reach to save more lives and bring more hope to those affected by su***de. We are grateful for each and every one of volunteers, we could not achieve the work we are doing without you!

Each year between January and May, AFSP chapters host Advocacy Action Days in state capitals across the country. These powerful and inspiring events bring advocates and state lawmakers together to talk about how we can and must work together to prevent su***de.
