ADI - Advancement of People with Disabilities & Rehabilitation for All Major-General (Res.)

By reimagining rehabilitation, ADI is advancing ability for all - empowering children, adolescents and adults with severe disabilities and providing cutting edge therapeutic and recovery services for anyone touched by disability. By advancing ability, ADI empowers Israel’s most vulnerable individuals – children, adolescents and young adults with severe disabilities – to reach their greatest lifetime potentials. ADI is also reimagining rehabilitation, providing cutting edge therapeutic and recovery services to individuals needing inpatient and outpatient care following an accident or health event. ADI’s teams of professional staff and volunteers at ADI Jerusalem and ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran are pioneering and sharing new ways to transform the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. ADI also advocates, educates and leads efforts nationally and globally on disability inclusion, disability equity and providing rehabilitative care with dignity and a focus on the future. The ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran rehabilitative village in Israel’s south and the ADI Jerusalem residential center comprise a continuum of loving care from infancy and childhood through adulthood, ensuring that residents with multiple disabilities and complex medical issues receive the medical and rehabilitative care and educational, vocational and social opportunities they need to reach their fullest potentials. At the same time, ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, which offers a host of rehabilitative solutions for individuals from all backgrounds and levels of need, is undergoing radical growth to meet the country's rehabilitative needs. The Harvey & Gloria Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, the first rehabilitative hospital in the Negev region, is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation, research and social center that will establish a model of community-based inclusive health services, increase the number of Israel’s rehabilitative hospital beds dramatically, bring quality care to the underserved residents of the south, and create more housing and jobs in the Negev, marking the beginning of a brand new era of medical and economic strength for the State of Israel. Doron Almog leads ADI as Chairman of the organization, Avi Wortzman serves as CEO of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, and Shlomit Grayevsky serves as CEO of ADI Jerusalem.

‘ADI’ (pronounced ah-dee) is the Hebrew word for a radiant and multifaceted jewel, a name that reflects our expansive vision and broad scope of activities, including disability care, rehabilitation, research, employment, education, community services and Tikkun Olam. It also speaks to the importance and great value of our mission to care for the most precious members of our society – those who cannot care for themselves.

✡️❤️♿ A HIGHLIGHT WITH JNF-USA: As Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance and Inclusion Month draws to a close, we wanted to highlight one of the most powerful disability education and inclusion moments of the season. Last week, participants on Jewish National Fund - USA's Circles of Impact Mission learned about the wonders of sports therapy firsthand from outpatients of the Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran who are living with disability. Our outpatients were so excited to teach and instruct, and the mission participants were delighted to learn and experience. In their own words, "the only problem with the disability simulation at ADI Negev was that it wasn't long enough - we wanted more!" Immersive experiences create real enlightenment, empowerment and change. Here's to finding new ways to highlight our shared humanity and creating a better, kinder, more inclusive and more accessible world! 🌍❤️♿

🍲 A RECIPE FOR HEALING: 💔 🫂 Over the last two years, ADI’s therapeutic cooking program - a crucial element of the larger 'Merhavim LaNefesh' resilience programming offered at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran - has brought together a group of women who all became widows over the course of the Iron Swords War. At first, the women kept to themselves. But as they sliced, chopped and stirred side by side for so many sessions, they began to open up and share their views on life and loss. A participant named Shiran shared that she was struggling, because her late husband had always been the cook at home. "Now, not only do I have to cope with being a single parent, I also have to learn how to cook, and it's incredibly difficult for me." In response, another woman shared the exact opposite perspective. She had always loved cooking for her husband, and her inability to do so left a gaping hole in her life. "Because I can't cook for him anymore, I find that I just can’t motivate myself to cook at all." Sharing their pain has allowed these resilient women to find common ground and a little bit of peace. The therapeutic kitchen at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran has become a safe space where they can talk, cry, laugh and start to rebuild. Sometimes, the deepest healing begins in the simplest of places surrounded by those who can really feel your pain. 🥧

🏆🎉 'NEUROSTRIDE' WALKS AWAY WITH STUDENT STEM CONTEST WIN! ♿💚 In its sixth year, ADI’s ‘Make the Change Challenge’ STEM accessible design contest drew more than 379 innovative and inspiring entries from students across North America, but Vancouver Talmud Torah sixth grader Henry Chodos claimed the contest’s $1,000 grand prize by envisioning a lightweight and slim-fitting orthopedic brace that automatically adjusts in stride, providing users with rigidity and flexibility as needed. Having struggled for years with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), a rare autoimmune disorder that causes muscular weakness and sensory loss in the limbs, Chodos set out to help himself and others by designing 'NeuroStride', an orthotic with built-in micro sensors that would intuitively correct gait irregularities and allow users to make adjustments via an easy-to-use app – no medical professional required.

Run by ADI to mark Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance and Inclusion Month ( ), the contest promotes “selfless STEM” and encourages students to hack the modern world to help people with disabilities overcome the challenges that hinder their independence and inclusion. Though our ADI centers are located in Jerusalem and the Negev, our 'ADI Bechinuch' programming allows us to promote disability inclusion, equity and access around the world, and do our part to ensure that every community has tangible opportunities for encountering disability, raising awareness and promoting acceptance! 🌎❤

🤡 ALL SMILES FOR ADAR! 🎭 The Jewish month of Adar is a joyful and auspicious time for the Jewish nation, and children across Israel kick off the month by dressing up in costume as a preview to the upcoming mega-holiday of Purim, the commemoration of a course of events that unmasked a hidden foe and saved the Jews during the Achaemenid Persian Empire. The staff, volunteers and special education students at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran kicked the month off right by dressing up in elaborate costumes, singing festive songs and enjoying sweet treats together. May our festive Adar celebrations usher in a period of peace, prosperity and unbridled joy! 🙏🏻🇮🇱

♿❤️ SIBLING REVELRY: 👨🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼 Siblings of children with severe disabilities are constantly walking an emotional tightrope. On the one hand, they love their special sisters and brothers beyond measure and will do anything to see them develop, be included and experience the joys of life. On the other, they are desparate for their parents' attention, a share of the limelight and a chance to forge their own identities. ADI is a warm and loving extended family for hundreds of children and young adults with severe disabilities that provides their parents and siblings with the resources and peace of mind they need to put aside complicated feelings and focus instead on embracing opportunities for stress-free bonding and relationship development with their loved ones. This sentimental smooch between a sister and her brother - a longtime special education student at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran - says it all. No complications. No barriers. Just deep connection and unconditional love. 😘🫂❤️

⏱️ CAN TWO HOURS CHANGE YOUR LIFE? 🤔 If you're visiting ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, that's par for the course! 🌍💚♿ A participant from yesterday's Swords of Iron Volunteers Mission was ALMOST at a loss for words:

"I have never seen anything like this - this village is the most inspiring and beautiful place I have ever been. The thought, attention to detail and leadership necessary to create and maintain this rehabilitation village is almost beyond belief. I am so grateful for this life-changing experience."

💚 ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY! 💚 To mark Israel's "National Family Day" and Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance and Inclusion Month ( ), ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran welcomed the families of our amazing special education students to the rehabilitation village for an uplifting morning of beautiful family bonding. Gathered in the Sports Therapy Complex of the Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, the families enjoyed an interactive clown show that elicited huge smiles and nonstop laughter from the students, their parents and their siblings. At ADI, we are one big happy family, and it shows! ❤️🤡

Our Story

ADI is Israel’s most comprehensive provider of residential care for individuals with severe disabilities and the leader of the national rehabilitation movement. While empowering hundreds of Israel’s most vulnerable citizens to advance well beyond their initial prognoses and live happy, dignified, and meaningful lives, ADI is also establishing fully inclusive communities and laying the groundwork for the provision of the highest-level rehabilitative care for all.

The ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran rehabilitative village in Israel’s south and the ADI Jerusalem residential center (formerly a part of the ALEH network) comprise a continuum of loving care from infancy and childhood through adulthood, ensuring that residents with multiple disabilities and complex medical issues receive the medical and rehabilitative care and educational, vocational and social opportunities they need to reach their fullest potentials. At the same time, ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, which offers a host of rehabilitative solutions for individuals from all backgrounds and levels of need, is undergoing radical growth to meet the country’s rehabilitative needs.

Slated for completion in 2021, the ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran Neuro-Orthopedic Rehabilitative Hospital, the first rehabilitative hospital in the Negev region, will feature 108 rehabilitative hospital beds and Israel’s first translational research institute, increasing the number of Israel’s rehabilitative hospital beds dramatically, bringing quality care to the residents of the south, and creating more housing and jobs in the Negev.

Major-General (Res.) Doron Almog leads ADI as Chairman of the organization, Avi Wortzman serves as CEO of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, and Shlomit Grayevsky serves as CEO of ADI Jerusalem.
