🦷 What Do We See in This Image?
This clinical image shows two classic gingival alterations associated with periodontal conditions and traumatic factors: Stillman’s cleft and McCall’s festoon.
🔹 Stillman’s cleft appears as a narrow, V-shaped gingival recession that extends apically from the gingival margin. It is often linked to traumatic toothbrushing, occlusal trauma, or chronic inflammation, and may progress if the underlying cause is not addressed.
🔹 McCall’s festoon is characterized by a thickened, rolled gingival margin, usually associated with chronic inflammation, plaque accumulation, or improper oral hygiene techniques. Although it may look subtle, it indicates long-standing gingival irritation.
👉 Both conditions highlight the importance of proper brushing techniques, early periodontal evaluation, and regular dental check-ups to prevent progression toward more severe periodontal damage.
Healthy gums are not only about aesthetics — they are essential for long-term oral health 😊
