Thank you to the Parliamentary Friends of Climate Action for hosting us at Parliament House yesterday for the launch of our updated report: ‘How Climate Change Affects Mental Health”

We used our time in parliament yesterday to communicate the mental health risks of climate change to our MPs and Senators, and shared with them our treatment plan:

1. Advice and Consultation: Consult with the mental health sector and other experts on mental health and climate change.

2. Reporting, Training and Preparedness: Mandate training on the health impacts of climate change for health care workers.

3. Prevention and care: Increase funding for public health evidence-based programs, increase funding for the community health sector and recognise climate anxiety, eco-grief and solastalgia as valid grounds for Medicare-funded mental health treatment plans.

4. Protect health: Incorporate human health considerations into the EPBC Act, require health impact assessments for all energy projects, and commit to protecting Australians’ mental health by moving on from Fossil Fuels.
