When babies are born, they first develop their sense of touch. As we get older, we forget that physical gestures of support such as stroking, massaging, hand-holding, and hugging are vital to our well-being. Being touched can help us better handle stress and other life challenges, and it even works when we give ourselves supportive touch.

Aljoscha Dreisoerner and his colleagues just published a paper showing that soothing self-touch (e.g., placing a hand on your heart for 20 sec) and being hugged can keep your cortisol levels low during a stressful situation.

The paper is free to read for everyone: bit.ly/32izOux"

Self-Compassion Phrases ✨

• May I be kind to myself in this moment.
• May I accept this moment exactly as it is.
• May I accept myself exactly as I am in this moment.
• May I give myself all the compassion I need.

This poem is titled, "The Courage to Surrender" by Kim Stafford. I wonder why so many of us struggle with this concept of needing courage to go with the flow. Do you think the resistance has more to do with the word than the concept? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!

When we struggle, we give ourselves compassion not to feel better but because we feel bad.
