Sethu Centre for Child Development & Family Guidance, Goa - India Sethu is a charitable trust for child development and family guidance in Goa, India.

Sethu is a charitable trust based in Goa, India, which helps children get the best out of their lives as they grow and develop. Sethu’s mission is to be a bridge between children and their families, their schools and their communities to foster their complete development through assessments, therapy, educational initiatives, training, awareness and capacity building. The Sethu Trust was formed in June 2005 to provide services for children with developmental, behavioural, emotional and educational challenges. We are committed to the welfare of the young and believe that there is an immense need for a service-based organisation for children and their education, development and behaviour. Our conviction is that everyone who cares for children can work together sharing skills and knowledge – this is the bridge that Sethu embodies. It is because children have families, teachers, communities and other supports that Sethu can do its work. When we pool our diverse competencies and resources we can maximise our power to make this world more responsive to all children.

On World Down Syndrome Day, inclusion begins with connection.

This year’s theme, Together Against Loneliness, reminds us that friendship and belonging are essential for every person.

A thoughtful article by Mahera Kantawala, our Occupational Therapist, highlights how small everyday actions like a greeting, a conversation, an invitation to join, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with Down syndrome.

Loneliness is not caused by disability. It often happens when people are unintentionally left out. But inclusion changes that. When we make space for connection, we build kinder and more compassionate communities.

Did you know why we wear mismatched socks for Down syndrome?
Socks were chosen because their shape looks like chromosomes. People with Down syndrome are born with an extra chromosome 21, so bright or mismatched socks are a fun way to spark conversations and celebrate differences.

Rock your socks. Start a conversation. Celebrate inclusion. ✨
