The Vocational Nursing Program prepares students to serve on nursing teams as entry-level vocational nurses. Upon completion of this 12-month program graduates are eligible to make application to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Candidates successfully passing this exam earn the title of Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Licensed Vocational Nurses are likely to find career opportunities in settings such as nursing homes; hospitals; residential care facilities; physician's offices and clinics; schools, home health and hopsice care agencies. Classroom study covers basic nursing concepts and patient care-related subjects, including anatomy, physiology, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, psychiatric nursing, and the administration of drugs. Clinical practice is in hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. Classes are offered at the Wharton Campus only. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, Monday through Friday Program.
