Some interesting deliveries this week, collected baby onesies from Habby Hyper delivered to Mayberry Park, delivered Covid masks to Newmarket, pepper spray to Meyersdal amongst others... Today planned delivery of a bicycle part and then help out big Thys by collecting some auto paint in Booysens!

Musing on the future of a service like this today ... I'm sure that many people and that includes those that know about this, even the ones who like and follow this page have needed this service but decide to either get in their cars and go or use a more 'commercial' service.

I see many people posting about supporting local and small businesses who are owners of such businesses but for the most part they don't support others in the same way they want to be supported.

The next time you need something collected/delivered maybe take a moment to consider if it makes financial sense and if you could use that time better than getting into your car? Before you go online to arrange that courier service, could it have been done by a local person?

Yes there are limitations to this kind of service but they may be less than you might think, far for most people on a bike is not that far for a fit cyclist ... I have ridden rides up to 400k as a 'serious recreational cyclist' so long rides are not a problem. Clearly that's not practical for day to day deliveries but maybe just ask you never know if your delivery would be quite possible by bike.

Size of package? Well as long again as it practical to carry in a bike I'll take it! Ask you never know ...

Those making and supplying masks and other PPE equipment, I often see the question asked 'can/do you deliver?' ... Ever considered that the Bicycle Messenger can collect from you and deliver to your customers?

If you're the one asking someone to deliver, we collect for you no problem!

We are allowed to transport that and at a fee of only R50 which is a fair price considering in most cases the minimum other couriers will ask is around R100.

Over and above that you are supporting a small business which currently has no income at all until the lockdown is lifted!

An observation of the last few days would be that people would still rather go out and risk the spread of CoVid-19 than have their medicines, groceries and other essential goods collected and delivered.

Anyone care to explain their thinking?

Updated for the period of lockdown! You know you shouldn't leave home so let us collect what you need and bring it to you, quite happy to collect your shopping list and the cash (or collect your cash voucher at the ATM) and then go collect no problem. We can also collect and deliver to anyone you may normally look after (Parents, friends, those without transport or unable to drive, the infirm and ill)

Unexpected/urgent, call we'll help ASAP! Every day, all day during this time

Look after yourselves and don't take any unnecessary risks

Since we're all in this together and many sickly and elderly people should probably rather not go out the cost for those trips will be at 50% of the normal price i.e R25

So if you know of or normally care for anyone in that situation please call and we'll deliver to or collect from them on your behalf

We normally don't offer to purchase on your behalf but these are unusual times so if you need this service let us know as well

The Bicycle Messenger Service is back up and running - We have registered as an Essential Services Provider to assist in less traffic flow out in the streets -

Note The Following:

We can ONLY deliver essential Goods as per below.

Medical Goods. eg - Prescriptions or other medicines from a doctor/Chemist
Essential Groceries. eg - Bread/milk/baby formula
Financial Documents. eg - Documents to and from Accountants etc.
Communication Devices. eg - Cellphones and routers

we will not deliver Non essentials no matter what you offer as we do not want to break the law

Moving documents or small items by Bicycle

Being an avid cyclist (riding 6 days a week, average over 300km’s) and being retired I decided to do something I enjoy and at the same make some ‘pocket money’. The idea is to offer a service that is quick, efficient, simple to use and makes your life easier.

When you need to move a document or small item within the greater Alberton area (Alrode, Glenvista, Mulbarton) and don’t have the time or perhaps the means to leave the office or home that’s what I can do for you!
