ASTIGMATISM
In astigmatism, light isn't evenly distributed onto your retina
Images can appear blurry or stretched, however, not everyone
with astigmatism has distorted vision.
Astigmatism is often present and is frequently hereditary.
In some cases it can be triggered by trauma to the eye.
It can also occur alongside nearsightedness and farsightedness.
Most cases are treatable with glasses or contact lenses and
for some corrective surgery is an option.

• Farsightedness is also called hyperopia, you can see distant objects
clearly, but close objects get blurry.
It happens when the eye doesn’t bend light properly causing it to
focus behind the retina instead of on it.

• This can be caused by a shorter-than-normal eyeball or a less curved
cornea. Exact reasons are still being researched.

• Corrective lenses are the most common treatment and surgical options
may be available for adults.

 Nearsightedness is also called myopia, you can see nearby objects
clearly, but faraway objects get blurry.

 It happens when the eye's shape causes light to focus in front
of the retina instead of directly on it, leading to blurred distance vision.

 Causes can include genetics, excessive close-up work, and environmental
factors. Exact reasons are still being researched.

 Treatments include glasses, contact lenses, or corrective surgery to
improve vision.

Arcus Senilis

• Arcus senilis, also known as corneal arcus, is a gray or white arc
or ring that appears around the cornea of the eye, typically in
older adults.
• It's caused by lipid deposits (fatty substances) and is generally
considered a normal part of aging, especially in those over 50.
• It is usually caused by cholesterol deposits, so it may be a sign
of high cholesterol or other lipid-related disorders.
• Arcus senilis itself does not require treatment, but if associated
with high cholesterol or other conditions, those underlying
issues should be addressed
• In older adults, it's usually benign and not a cause for concern.
However, in younger individuals, it may warrant further
investigation for underlying health issues

EYE CONDITIONS LINKED WITH HEART DISEASE

Xanthelasma

• Xanthelasma is a condition where yellow, fatty deposits, specifically
cholesterol, accumulate under the skin, most commonly on or
near the eyelids
• These deposits, also known as xanthomas, can be soft, chalky,
or semi-solid.
• Xanthelasma is usually painless and does not typically affect vision
or eyelid movement. However, they can sometimes cause the
eyelid to droop.
• While they do not affect your vision almost half of the individuals
who have xanthelasma have high cholesterol.
• Xanthelasma may sometimes indicate heart disease.
• Because xanthelasma can be a sign of underlying health issues,
it's recommended to consult with a doctor for proper diagnosis
and evaluation of any associated conditions, particularly if you
have high cholesterol or other risk factors.
