As with most of the best massage techniques, Bamboo Massage is rooted in ancient practices.🎍

But what is it?

Simply put, it uses warmed bamboo sticks as the tool to deliver deep muscle stimulation during the massage. Sticks of varying diameters are used to knead and roll tension out of the body to relieve stress, tension and discomfort.

Your therapist will use warmed bamboo sticks of varying sizes to roll, knead, and press into the muscles. The heat from the bamboo aids muscle relaxation, allowing the practitioner to work more deeply into the tissue of the targeted area.

The warmth of the bamboo sticks enhances a sense of well-being, while the firm pressure helps release knots and improve circulation. It's particularly effective for clients with chronic tension or muscle pain, as the deep pressure can reach those stubborn areas that regular massage techniques might miss.

Burnout is defined as an ongoing state of feeling overwhelmed, fatigued, and emotionally drained due to consistent stress in your work, family, or social life.

To make matters worse, the 'silly season' is a frenzied, festive time that causes a shift in focus from everyday work tasks to holiday planning.

Burnout mostly involves situations that are out of your control, but you can control the stress you feel because of it.

Always be kind to yourself and remember that you cannot do it all, even if most of us believe we can.

Don't forget to hydrate; dehydration has many negative health implications!

Dehydration negatively affects muscle performance by hindering thermal regulation, altering water movement across cell membranes, and interfering with the formation of actin-myosin cross-bridges. A sign of dehydration in your muscles is an increase in cramps.

Summer weekends outside are here, and with the December holidays on the horizon, it's a good idea to know how to manage any sunburn you might get as soon as you notice it. 🌞

1. Take frequent cool baths or showers to help relieve the pain. Gently pat yourself dry.

2. Apply a moisturiser that contains aloe vera or soy to help soothe sunburned skin. Try applying it while your skin is still damp from a bath/shower and whenever you feel discomfort.

3. Apply calamine lotion, place a cool, damp washcloth on the affected area, or take a colloidal oatmeal bath to relieve discomfort.

4. Consider taking aspirin or ibuprofen to help reduce any swelling and discomfort.

5. Drink extra water. A sunburn draws fluid to the skin’s surface and away from the rest of the body. Drinking extra water when you are sunburned helps prevent dehydration.

6. If your skin blisters, allow the blisters to heal. Blistering skin means you have a second-degree sunburn. You should not pop the blisters. Keep them clean and apply petroleum jelly to protect them while they heal.

Remember the key is skin prevention, keep an eye on the UV index, stay out of the sun at its peak and wear sunscreen.

Essential oils are becoming more common to use during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period to treat anxiety, aches and lack of focus; but are they safe?

While essential oils have been deemed safe when used as directed/intended, it is best not to ingest or apply them topically. It's also important to understand that pregnancy can influence how you react; heightened senses of smell may leave you feeling overwhelmed rather than relaxed due to the scent of the oils or trigger symptoms like nausea.

If you still want to use essential oils, source essential oils that are 100% plant-derived without fillers or byproducts. 🌱Lavender, eucalyptus, neroli, and ylang-ylang are some safe and beneficial options to try as long as you get the all clear from your doctors!

Some oils you should refrain from using:
❌ Aniseed
❌ Birch
❌ Camphor
❌ Clary Sage
❌ Clove
❌ Geranium
❌ Mugwort
❌ Parsley Seed or Leaf
❌ Peppermint
❌ Rosemary
❌ Sage
❌ Thyme
❌ Wintergreen
❌ Wormwood

It’s critical to discuss the use of essential oils with your OBGYN.🤰 Every woman’s pregnancy, symptoms, and potential risk factors are unique. Your doctor should be your first resource for questions about essential oil use and other pregnancy-related concerns.🩺

When you are pregnant, it is crucial to check that your massage therapist is versed in how to manage pregnancy treatments.

A qualified therapist will know where to apply pressure (and where not to), will have education on how to navigate your specific symptoms and pain, what areas to avoid in reflexology, and what aftercare suggestions need to be made to account for what trimester you are in.

Pregnancy massage is a delicate treatment, and you need experienced hands to guide you to the benefits. It cannot be treated like any other massage. Please always ask your massage therapist about their experience and inform your Doctor of your activities.

Reflexology is an ancient holistic technique often used to soothe the aches and pains in your back and joints by applying pressure to key pressure points. 💪🏻

The technique may provide possible relief from a multitude of pregnancy symptoms, including morning sickness, heartburn, swelling in the legs (if it's not due to preeclampsia), constipation, high blood pressure (as long as it's not related to preeclampsia), insomnia, bladder problems, mild cramping and haemorrhoids.

Some have even reported a decrease in depression and anxiety.

As with any new therapy during pregnancy, remember to consult your practitioner before you begin reflexology treatments. Make sure that your reflexologist is a trained professional. 🤰🏻

Don’t forget to mention that you’re pregnant before your session and ask your reflexologist how much experience he or she has working with pregnant women.

Keep in mind that there are certain complications for which reflexology is specifically not recommended. Talk to your practitioner and your reflexologist; good reflexologists will not work on you unless they're sure that they won't cause you or your baby any harm.

For most pregnant moms, however, reflexology is a totally blissful way to soothe your sore and tired body.

Our Story

What once started out as a simple college assignment, turned into a passion project based upon the idea of helping people feel the best that they can possibly feel!

One holistic therapist and one makeup artist/ social media manager came together to create something that does not only flaunt the positive effects of glitter but helps people feel happier, healthier and more balanced.

Today we stand, 4 years later, two brains smarter and a hell of a lot stronger but one thing has never changed: the quest to help people feel happier within themselves...

Glitter Pixies offer a wide array of treatment - from sports massages to pregnancy massage to occasion makeup and almost, everything in between!
