Essential oils are becoming more common to use during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period to treat anxiety, aches and lack of focus; but are they safe?
While essential oils have been deemed safe when used as directed/intended, it is best not to ingest or apply them topically. It's also important to understand that pregnancy can influence how you react; heightened senses of smell may leave you feeling overwhelmed rather than relaxed due to the scent of the oils or trigger symptoms like nausea.
If you still want to use essential oils, source essential oils that are 100% plant-derived without fillers or byproducts. 🌱Lavender, eucalyptus, neroli, and ylang-ylang are some safe and beneficial options to try as long as you get the all clear from your doctors!
Some oils you should refrain from using:
❌ Aniseed
❌ Birch
❌ Camphor
❌ Clary Sage
❌ Clove
❌ Geranium
❌ Mugwort
❌ Parsley Seed or Leaf
❌ Peppermint
❌ Rosemary
❌ Sage
❌ Thyme
❌ Wintergreen
❌ Wormwood
It’s critical to discuss the use of essential oils with your OBGYN.🤰 Every woman’s pregnancy, symptoms, and potential risk factors are unique. Your doctor should be your first resource for questions about essential oil use and other pregnancy-related concerns.🩺
