👏🏻 Floor transfers 👏🏻

Teaching floor transfers in rehabilitation is incredibly valuable — and as a physiotherapist and occupational therapist, who values functional independence and patient interaction, this is one of those skills that truly changes confidence levels in patients.

Here is why teaching floor transfers to patients are important:
1. Improves safety after falls
2. Promotes functional independence
3. Increases confidence
4. Reduces fear of falling

A physiotherapist focus is on biomechanics, strength, movement retraining, balance, mobility and righting reactions.

An occupational therapist focus is on functional independence, fall prevention, environmental adaptation, task-specific independence and participation in life roles.

In rehabilitation, when both disciplines address floor transfers, outcomes are more holistic.

Recovery Through Hope

At Nurture Worcester, Ms. Domingo shares what Better Tomorrows means to her as a physiotherapist in physical rehabilitation.

She supports patients finding their way after serious illness or injury. There are hard days. There is frustration. There are moments of uncertainty for patients and families.

And then there are moments of hope.
A hand lifting independently.
A first steady step.
A word spoken with effort and pride.

These moments may seem small, but they mean everything.

For Ms Domingo, nurturing hope is simply part of caring. Walking alongside each patient. Offering support. Helping them rebuild strength and confidence one step at a time.

Hope creates Better Tomorrows...

⭐️ The longest and loudest clap out ⭐️

On 2nd January 2026, Mrs Chiliza was admitted to Nurture iLembe after spending two months in an acute hospital setting, including 11 days on a ventilator.

She had a host of medical issues which resulted in ICU acquired weakness leaving her completely bed bound, unable to move her limbs for herself.

She needed 4 people to just help her sit upright in bed, then 4 people to try and stand. But now, look at her go — walking with a walking frame. How incredible.

Rehabilitation was not easy. Started rebuilding step by step from the basics in bed to now standing and walking.

From pain to progress — every small step that she took forward was a victory worth celebrating. Rehabilitation is not just recovery, it’s resilience in motion.

Mrs Chiliza showed daily commitment towards her recovery. It was courage on the hard days and determination when her body felt exhausted.

After 10 weeks of intensive rehabilitation, Mrs Chiliza walked out of Nurture’s doors — upright, independent, smiling, and healthy.

Moments like this remind us why rehabilitation matters. Recovery is not just about surviving — it’s about reclaiming independence, dignity, and quality of life.

We are so incredibly proud and happy to have been part of her journey. Thank you for trusting us with your care.

Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day ☀️ 🌊

Healthy lifestyle awareness means understanding what habits support your physical, mental, and emotional well-being and consciously making choices that protect and improve your health long-term.

It’s not just knowing what’s healthy. It’s being aware of how your daily behaviours affect your body and mind, and adjusting them intentionally.

We chose to go to the beach to support our wellbeing.

Spending time at the beach isn’t just relaxing, it can genuinely support your emotional and mental health. Here’s how:

🌊 Reduces stress and anxiety
🌊 Boosts mood naturally
🌊 Encourages mindfulness
🌊 Creates mental clarity
🌊 Improves emotional regulation
🌊 Gentle physical activity
🌊 Strengthens connection

Working in rehabilitation we value hands-on connection, the beach can offer that same sensory regulation we help our patients experience; but this time for us, the staff.

Today, we celebrate Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day
Today is a gentle reminder that caring for your health lies in the small choices made daily.

What we eat, how we move, whether we rest or not, our relationships, and our emotional wellbeing are all interconnected. Healthy living is not about perfection, but rather about the steps we take to progress towards healthier living.

At Nurture Health, we recognise and support healthier lifestyles that promote recovery, resilience, and independence.

Better Tomorrows don’t happen overnight. It happens one step and one day at a time.

Hope Begins With A Single Step At Nurture Blouberg

When Mr Wallace arrived at Nurture Blouberg after a long stay in ICU, his body was weak, and even the smallest movement felt overwhelming. Walking again felt unattainable, but he showed up every single day.

With patience, courage, and determination, he committed to his therapy. Step by step, he grew stronger. Little by little, progress started to show.
By the time he was ready to go home, Mr. Wallace could walk short distances with support. He could move safely using a transfer board. He was managing more of his daily activities on his own.

These may sound like small milestones, but for someone who once could not stand, they are life-changing.

Today, we celebrate his resilience, his hard work, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going when things feel uncertain.

Well done, Mr. Wallace. Your journey reminds us that even the smallest step forward can change everything.

Better Tomorrows begin with hope.

Managing Stress to Create Better Tomorrows…

Stress forms a part of our daily lives and can have a big impact on overall health and wellbeing if not managed correctly.
Unfortunately, stress is something that we can’t avoid. However, we can take active steps to manage it better.

Here are a few basic stress management tips to keep in mind:
• Identify your stress triggers: Identifying the area is half of the battle. By recognizing what stresses you out, you can take active measures to reduce stress.
• Focused breathing: Pause and take slow, steady breaths.
• Create manageable tasks: Oftentimes, we feel overwhelmed with our daily tasks and responsibilities. Breaking tasks up into realistic, smaller chunks often reduces stress and allows better focus.
• Rest: Resting is vitally important. Set aside some time for rest and gentle movement.
• Build a support network: Stay connected to people you trust and reach out to them if need be.
• Seek professional help: If stress is beginning to affect your quality of life, then it is best to consider seeking professional help. Support is available.

At Nurture Health, we believe that a good balance between physical and emotional wellbeing is a must.

The small steps we take in reducing stress can help build resilience and enable Better Tomorrows…

Happy Valentines Day!

We take a moment to celebrate love in all its forms and the role it plays in recovery. The love of family, the care of healthcare professionals, and the strength shown by patients every day. Love is the tiny actions we take every day.

At Nurture Health, compassion is at the centre of everything we do. We believe that compassionate care supports recovery, restores independence, and goes a long way in the lives of our patients and their families.

Today, we share appreciation for the kindness, compassion, care, and connections that make healing possible and human.

Beach community outing 🏖️ 🌊

Rehabilitation doesn’t only happen in hospital rooms or therapy gyms — it happens in real life.

A recent community outing with two patients, one recovering from spinal & brain surgery and the other from a back operation; highlighted the true purpose of:
1. Occupational therapy: supporting safe, meaningful participation in everyday life alongside family and community.
2. Physiotherapist: Testing and achieving highest functional mobility function with appropriate assistive aids in real life

Community reintegration is a vital part of the rehabilitation process. While clinical environments allow for skill development, real-world settings introduce the challenges that truly matter — uneven terrain, obstacles, crowds, distractions, problem-solving, endurance, and the unpredictability of daily life. These are the environments patients must confidently return to.

During outings like these, physiotherapy and occupational therapy intervention may include:
☀️ Functional mobility and safe navigation of community spaces
🌊 Energy conservation and fatigue management
☀️ Cognitive retraining for planning, sequencing, and decision-making
🌊 Environmental adaptation and risk assessment
☀️ Family education and support
🌊 Building independence, confidence, and participation
☀️ Balance and endurance re-training
🌊 Mobilising on uneven terrain and slopes whilst maneuvering an assistive aid testing strength

Occupational therapists and Physiotherapists work closely together in rehab to drive and achieve these outcomes.

Community outings remind us that healthcare is most impactful when therapy reflects real life.

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is honoured on the 4 February annually and is highlighted by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). It is led by the Union for International Cancer Contol (UICC). The new global World Cancer Day campaign theme for 2025-2027 is “United by Unique”

Behind every cancer diagnosis is a unique human story—stories of resilience, grief,
hope, and healing. People-centred care means seeing the whole person and
meeting their unique needs with compassion and empathy.

Let’s unite to raise awareness about the need for people-centred care. Every story
matters, and together we can make a difference. Share your story and inspire
others!
