๐ Happy Friday from Dr. Deon Lamprecht, Neurosurgeon & Team ๐
This week is Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week ๐๐ถ โ a reminder that keeping children safe on the road is every parentโs responsibility, especially during the school holidays.
โ
Using the right car seat, booster seat, or seat belt isnโt just the law โ it can save your childโs life and prevent devastating brain or spinal injuries in the event of a crash.
As neurosurgeons, we see first-hand the tragic consequences when children are not properly restrained. Head injuries and spinal trauma are among the most severe outcomes of motor vehicle accidents, and many of these can be prevented with proper safety measures. ๐ง ๐
โ ๏ธ When should a child see a neurosurgeon after an accident?
โ
If your child was not in a car seat or seat belt during a crash
โ
If they experience loss of consciousness, vomiting, confusion, severe headache, or seizures
โ
If they complain of neck or back pain, weakness, or numbness
โ
If there are visible signs of head injury or trauma
Letโs work together to keep our children safe. Buckle them up correctly every trip, every time. โค๏ธ
๐ Stay safe this holiday season, and letโs celebrate responsibly by protecting the little ones who depend on us most.
