How long do hearing aids last?

Ahhh… technology: We love it. We’re sometimes frustrated by it. But let’s face it—we all can name at least one techno-gadget that makes life simpler or more enjoyable.

Maybe it’s our car GPS—helping us get to wherever we want to go with a simple tap or voice command. Or our smartphone, that “right hand” that helps keep us in constant communication by allowing us to take calls, have meetings, or answer emails anytime—anywhere.

Or…it might even be our hearing aids. Think about it: The latest devices not only help us hear better, but also stream calls and entertainment, monitor physical activity, and much more.

Like other sleek, cool, and innovative technology, hearing aids eventually run their course—so how long do hearing aids last?

Bimodal synchronization is only possible with MED-EL cochlear implants.

MED-EL is the only CI manufacturer that equips audiologists with tools to adjust CI maps for both latency and frequency mismatches in bimodal listening.

Here’s what we recommend for optimal fitting:

1. Minimize frequency mismatch on the CI side using OTOPLAN and anatomy-based fitting in MAESTRO.
2. Adjust for latency mismatch between the CI and any hearing aid using this resource:

Exploring the connection between hearing loss and balance

It’s no secret that balance plays an important role in our ability to perform daily activities. And as we age, it becomes even more critical to monitor our balance to maintain not only our autonomy—but also our physical safety.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 4 older adults report falling each year—that’s over 14 million people. Unfortunately, the likelihood of falls increases as we grow older, and one common contributor may surprise you—untreated hearing loss.

Studies prove that untreated hearing loss can increase the risk of falls by 30%. And the more severe our hearing loss is, the more our chances of falling increase.
