SUFFERING FROM HEARING LOSS?
Hearing impairment is a hidden disability many people live with every day. Untreated it can lead to personal and social difficulties.
Hearing loss gets treated with either surgery or a hearing aid, depending on the cause for the hearing loss.
In some circumstances a hearing aid will still be necessary after surgery. A hearing aid can also be used in cases where a person doesn’t want surgery, or where the risks for surgery are too high.
When wearing a hearing aid could result in discomfort or other issues for the user, wearing it may be hindered by user frustration.
INTRODUCING: BAHA -
THE IMPLANTABLE HEARING DEVICE
To relieve these frustrations (mentioned above) a BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) should be considered.
WHAT IS BAHA?
It is a hearing aid that, with a small operation, gets implanted in the skull behind the affected ear.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The hearing aid’s microphone, on the outside of the skin of the affected ear, picks up sound waves and converts them into vibrations to the inner ear through the embedded implant and the skull.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM A BAHA?
• Patients with hearing loss due to a middle ear condition.
• Patients with hearing loss due to both middle and inner ear reasons.
• Patients who have lost hearing completely in the one ear, with still normal hearing in the other ear.
POSSIBLE CANDIDATE OR NOT?
Feel free to make an appointment (021 9110898) to discuss the problem and to examine the ears. A hearing test/audiogram will be done and will reveal the extent of the hearing problem. We will then discuss treatment options.
