We are often blinded by emotions when thinking about things that happened to us in the past. Perhaps the wounds within you still bleed whenever something triggers a thought of a past event, perhaps how you were mistreated, neglected, humiliated, or felt unloved or unwanted.

The only way for those wounds to heal, is to make a decision to consciously and carefully address them, and to patiently work through the things that has hurt you so deeply. Yes, it’s painful, and yes, it will provoke uninvited and unwelcome emotions which you would rather prefer to avoid, but it’s necessary to deal with them, and in the end, the result from doing so will be positive.

It’s not always necessary to take drastic steps for the healing process to begin, sometimes we only need to change our perspective, and the way we look at and perceive a situation. Looking at a painful event from a different point of view may help us to understand the event better, it may help us to understand the person who has hurt us better. If we can be successful in doing so, the healing process has already begun.

Have a blessed week.

We all feel down or sad from time to time, perhaps in reaction to stressful events at work, at home, or perhaps in a relationship, but as the situation improves, so does our mood.

Depression however, is a whole different scenario, and can greatly impact our everyday functioning, and have a negative effect on our relationships. You may be more irritable, pay less attention to and perhaps withdraw from your partner, which cultivates favourable conditions for relationship deterioration.

Having experienced some of the following symptoms almost every day, for most of the day, for at least a 2 week period, may be a sign that you may be suffering from Depression:

• Dysphoria, which includes feeling down or blue, sad, hopeless, and empty;
• Loss of interest in activities;
• Inability to concentrate, and indecisiveness;
• Withdrawal and self-isolation;
• Physical symptoms which may include insomnia or hypersomnia, changes in appetite, headaches, fatigue or having low energy levels, and even troubled breathing.

These symptoms may however also reflect an underlying physical illness, which may include vitamin deficiencies, thyroid disease, certain viruses, and also medication interactions.

If you’ve experienced some of the above mentioned symptoms for at least a 2 week period, and there’s noticeable changes in your everyday functioning, it may be advantageous to pay your Health Care Practitioner a visit.

World Mental Health Day - 10/10/2021
Today is World Mental Health Day, and we tend to think that Mental Health only refers to Mental disorders such as Major Depression, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorders, etcetera, but in fact Mental Health includes our everyday mental wellbeing. Thus it’s important for us to be consciously aware of how we are mentally and emotionally affected by certain situations, and how we perceive and react to certain things and people around us, as this can lead to a more serious mental state in the future.
A few things we can do every day to take care of our mental health includes the following:
* Get your daily dose of sunlight;
* Find healthy ways to manage your stress;
* Find a hobby and do things which you enjoy;
* Get enough sleep;
* Breathe (yes, daily breathing exercises are important, because it aids in supplying more oxygen to your brain. Take a deep breath through your nose, slowly, and then slowly breath out through your mouth);
* Focus on removing things from your life which makes you feel anxious and stressed;
* If you feel overwhelmed, depressed or anxious in such a way that your daily life is affected by it, ask for help (it’s not a sin, and you owe it to yourself).
Taking care of yourself mentally and physically is not only important for your own wellbeing, but also the wellbeing of your loved ones, and especially of your children. It is indeed possible for us to contribute to changing the world, but changing the world…….starts with oneself.

Life after divorce can be challenging, and it’s very easy to lock yourself up and surrender to loneliness. Yes, it’s important to take the time to acknowledge what you’ve been through, and to acknowledge how it makes you feel, perhaps you’re angry, hurt, and disappointed, and part of the healing process is to work through all of these emotions, but what’s even more important during this time is for you to find ways to start rebuilding yourself and your life.
Life will always present us with difficulties and challenges, and we might not always be able to direct our paths, but regardless of what it is we need to face, and regardless of how difficult it may be, we are always confronted with choices, sometimes we’re even surprised with wonderful opportunities, but at the end of the day, the decision to choose life.......is entirely up to you.
