What is Biokinetics ?

The Science of Movement and the application of exercise in rehabilitative treatment of performance.

Biokinetics’ primary function is to improve physical functioning and health care through exercise as a modality.

Biokinetics is the profession concerned with health promotion, the maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation, by means of scientifically-based physical activity programme prescription.

Exercise is extremely important in the management of Down Syndrome.

- These patients often have underdeveloped cardiovascular systems and therefore exercise can help improve their cardiovascular fitness
- they generally also have low muscle tone and hyper-flexible joints and need muscle strengthening.

However, the wrong exercise prescription can result in injury and other problems. It is important to seek help from a medical professional such as a biokineticist to get the correct care and advice.
