[FAREWELL FUNCTION] SAPS bids farewell to Lieutenant General Baile Brenda Motswenyane, the outgoing Provincial Commissioner of the Free State Province. Lt Gen Motswenyane began her career in the South African Police Service (SAPS) in January 1989 and was appointed as a Constable in June of the same year. In July 1991, she was promoted to Lance Sergeant and, in December 1991, she was promoted to Sergeant.
In 1994, she advanced to the rank of Warrant Officer. In February 1995, she was promoted to Lieutenant, and in December of the same year she became a Captain.
Her senior leadership trajectory continued in the 2000s, where she was appointed as Superintendent in the year 2000, to Director in June of that year, and then Assistant Commissioner in December 2002.
She was then appointed Major General in 2010 and has been a Lieutenant General since February 2016, when she was appointed Provincial Commissioner of the North West. She later served as the Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, a position she holds to this day.
She is the only female officer in the history of our ranks to become a Provincial Commissioner of two provinces. These promotions reflect her long service, leadership and contribution to policing. We will remember her for these qualities.
Lt Gen Motswenyane was bestowed the SAPS Gold Medal for Outstanding Service in 2022, earning her the SOEG status. Only a few select SAPS officials receive this honour.
Lt Gen Motswenyane has served the South African communities for 37 years.
