Calipered Kinematic Alignment (KA) vs. Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty
(TKA): Why Calipered KA Leads

• Calipered Kinematic Alignment (KA) restores a patient's native knee kinematics by referencing the pre-arthritic joint lines and ligament tensions, avoiding the generic
mechanical axis target of robotic systems (Howell et al., 2020). This results in faster
recovery, better proprioception. and higher satisfaction rates (Dossett et al., 2012).

•Robotic-assisted TKA, while precise, is constrained by mechanical alignment paradigms and often disregards individual joint morphology, leading to mid-flexion instability and unnatural kinematics (Kayani et al., 2019). Robotics cannot replicate the precision of calipered resections directly referencing cartilage and bone wear intraoperatively (Howell & Hull, 2021).

• Multiple RCTs show superior PROMs and faster return to function in KA over
mechanically-aligned robotic techniques (Calliess et al., 2017). Calipered KA achieves anatomic restoration without the cost, complexity, or workflow delays of robotic systems.

Total Shoulder Replacement:

This practice was the first outside the USA to use the "Virtual Implant Positioning (VIP)" system for shoulder
replacements. It is a method whereby a pre-operative scan is done to obtain a virtual model of the patient's
shoulder. USA based technicians draw up a comprehensive intra-operative plan to facilitate optimal placement of the shoulder prosthesis specific to each patient. The service is exclusive to the shoulder system I use and is made available at no additional cost. To date, patient outcomes have been outstanding and the system will no doubt improve as AI develops.
I have done one of the most extensive series using this method outside the USA and plan on presenting the data on an international platform.

This practice has been approved by Improved Clinical Pathway Services (ICPS) to do their knee and hip
replacements according to internationally accepted protocols.
This will make it possible for patients to have their replacement without the burden of any co-payment towards the hospital,
prosthesis, anaesthetist, physiotherapist or the surgeon.
ICPS is an administrative company that administer and facilitates joint replacements for numerous medical aids.
The ICPS -system is an internationally researched program based on the principles that optimal preoperative preparation and selection of the patient minimizes perioperative complications. An accelerated postoperative rehabilitation program allows quicker discharge, minimizing hospital acquired infections. This approach also allows us to do selected cases at a day hospital
facility.
