This gentleman had a pituitary adenoma that was causing visual deterioration. The endoscopic, transnasal procedure went well. He could go home 5 days later and reported much improved vision. The CT scan looked good with just a small speck of blood where the tumour was. We'll repeat the MRI after 3 months to make sure the tumour is all gone.

Rare pathology. Young lady with a cerebello-pontine angle (CPA) epidermoid cyst. We achieved complete resection. She made a complete recovery and could go home after 13 days.

Four-year-old lady. Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV) for blocked ventriculo-peritoneal shunt (VPS). Always greatful for the trust.

Sad to report - probably no more DBS cases to be done in Bloemfontein - Mediclinic has sold off our equipment for understandable reasons - not enough cases to justify the upkeep.

Keyhole "DLIF" #519 done on Monday, just left hospital. Her previous procedure elsewhere had failed with broken screws as a results. She reports good relief of her back & leg pains. Early days though.

Team Komoti & I had to remove this meningioma as an emergency yesterday. She presented with headaches, epileptic fits & was very drowsy due to the pressure. Glad to report removal was 100% and she is recovering well - awake, no obvious neurological deficit. Will do follow up scan on Monday and try to get her home before Christmas.

Back in Bethlehem for a day or two. We now consult at Hoephoep Guest House, a stone’s throw from Mediclinic. Thank you to Mediclinic & to Next Level Air for the ground & air transport. Strangely, all but one patient had “M” surnames - some Sotho, some Afrikaans, and even Italian.

Did our 400th MI-DLIF operation last week, and 2 more this week. It’s arguably the smallest, least painful, safest, and most efficient way to fix/fuse a very diseased spinal joint permanently. Been at it since 2011.
