Oh dear!
As the “AI Caricature” trend sweeps across social media platforms in early 2026, Tanosec Cybersecurity is issuing an urgent warning to the public. While the viral prompt asking AI to “create a caricature based on everything you know about me” may appear harmless, the company cautions that it presents a significant -and potentially irreversible- risk to personal privacy and digital security.
“Users believe they are just getting a fun avatar for their profile,” says the founder of Tanosec. “In reality, they are handing over a complete 360-degree digital dossier that includes biometric data, professional history, and personal context—all in one package.”
According to Tanosec, the trend carries four critical risks.
Loss of face prints: Uploading high-quality photos allows AI models to conduct biometric analysis, mapping facial geometry and expressions. Once stored on external servers, this data can be exploited for deepfakes, bypassing facial-recognition security, or enabling permanent profiling.
The context trap: By instructing AI to use “everything it knows,” users consolidate location data, family information, and professional history alongside their physical likeness. Such information may later be used to train future AI models without consent or sold for invasive, hyper-targeted advertising.
The illusion of deletion: Removing a chat does not necessarily erase the underlying data. Many platform policies allow raw information to be stored for extended periods, and once data is used to fine-tune a model, it effectively becomes a permanent part of that system’s architecture.
Centralised vulnerability: Participation can create what Tanosec describes as a “one-stop shop” for cybercriminals. A single breach could expose a complete identity profile on the dark web, opening the door to blackmail, fraud, or harassment.
In response, Tanosec urges users to prioritise what it calls digital sovereignty. Rather than engaging in trends that harvest personal data, the firm recommends exploring local, offline AI tools or using generic prompts that do not require personal imagery or history.
The company’s message is direct: Do not trade your digital identity for a 3D avatar. If a service appears to be free, Tanosec warns, the user may in fact be the product.
