Good morning all - we trust you are well.

Update:

Rapid testing is now available at the Lesotho border post for all. The cost is ZAR 300 and is done on the South African side. It only takes 15 minutes to get the results.

This is much cheaper than what the labs charge for a Covid certificate.

The test itself is safe and accurate. If negative, you will be allowed to cross into South Africa for 24 hours. If positive - you will not be allowed to cross and will in all probability be asked to self-isolate..

As we understand - you do not need a letter from your medical services provider confirming an appointment. That said, it is better to be prepared. If you require a letter - just send us an email and we will oblige.

Have a great day and stay safe.

Good morning all - good news all round! This will make it much easier for our Lesotho clients. Issued yesterday

Health on Antigen tests for SARS-CoV-2 roll-out at points of entry

8 Oct 2020
Antigen tests for SARS-CoV-2 detection will be rolled out to all ports of entry in South Africa with immediate effect.

The purpose of this rollout is to effect the provisions of the level one travel regulations, which stipulate that all travelers that arrive at a port of entry without a certified negative SARS-CoV-2 PCR test result (not older than 72 hours) must be tested at the point of entry before entering the country.

Antigen tests (different from antibody tests) are immunoassays that detect the presence of a specific viral antigen, which implies current viral infection. The advantage of the antigen test is that, unlike the PCR test, the results are available in 15 minutes.

In consideration of the logistical complications that a point of entry PCR test poses and the additional mitigation measures in place, it was resolved by Cabinet to implement testing at points of entry using the antigen test. Government is also aware that some of our neighbouring countries, for example Lesotho, do not have the capacity to conduct PCR testing for all travelers destined for South Africa. Antigen testing will therefore enable the management of the influx of travelers without certified PCR tests timeously.

An additional consideration was the cost effectiveness of the exercise- at a fee of about R150- R170, antigen tests cost much less than PCR tests. Goverment wishes to emphasize to all travelers that the cost of the antigen test shall be borne by the traveler and not South Africa or their country of origin. Travelers are implored to ensure that they make the necessary arrangements to be able to effect payment at the point of entry.

The World Health Organisation has recently approved the use of rapid antigen tests as a point of care diagnostic for COVID-19 for screening and surveillance tool in the community where a rapid result is required at low cost. Rapid antigen tests have been commonly used in the diagnosis of respiratory pathogens, including influenza viruses and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for two companies to supply antigen tests. There is anticipation that more of these tests will become available from other suppliers. The National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) will be procuring these tests initially for use at our ports of entry. In time, as more kits become available, these tests will be rolled out in community surveillance programmes.

The antigen test is conducted by collecting a sample from the naso-oropharyngeal area, in the same manner as a PCR test, and therefore sample collection must be done by a professional and cannot be done by an individual at home.

It is important to be aware that the PCR test remains the gold standard, given that it has much higher sensitivity and specificity than the rapid antigen test. All travelers implored to adhere to the regulations and ensure that, where possible, they complete processing their PCR tests not more than 72 hours prior to their departure or arrival at a port of entry in South Africa. This is how we can best protect each other as we travel around the world.

However, in the event of a traveler arriving at a port of entry without a certified negative PCR test, this shall be the procedure:

The traveler will be screened for signs and symptoms on arrival
Upon failure to produce a certified PCR test result, the traveler will be directed to a testing facility at the port of entry
A staff member from NHLS will collect the samples and conduct the test immediately
The cost shall be borne by the traveler and the NHLS shall be remunerated upon testing. Travelers must be prepared to pay out of pocket (approximately ZAR150- 170) and claim the fees from their health insurance service provider (pending the relevant insurance agreement)
If the traveler tests negative, he/ she will be allowed to proceed through the port of entry provided they have been cleared of red flags at the screening phase
If the traveler tests positive he/ she will be required to quarantine at a facility designated by that particular port of entry. They will not be permitted to travel across provinces. Contacts of a traveler testing positive at the point of entry, including those who were in proximity of the traveller within the conveyance, will also be tracked and traced.
Travelers who arrive without a certified PCR test and who refuse to test at the port of entry will not be permitted entry into the Republic and will be required to quarantine at a designated facility

Government remains committed to ensuring that South Africa does not suffer from a second wave that compels us to enforce hard lockdown conditions again. Government is embarking a commitment to a path of socio-economic recovery and growth, and it reminds the citizens and visitors that all must share in the responsibility of mitigating the effects of COVID-19. Government wishes to reassure all affected people that these measures are put in place not to penalize anyone but to protect each other from the devastations of COVID-19. For those travelers who will need to undergo the procedure outlined above, are requested to have patience and cordial interactions with the authorities that are tasked with enforcing the regulations.

Citizens and visitors are also encouraged to download the COVID-Alert App which is safe, secure and user friendly.

Good evening all
Level one is progressing very well but at a slower rate than expected. Stay safe and follow government protocols to stop the spread of the virus. Remember - those who are healthy and have no serious medical challenges may contract the virus but will have little or no symptoms.
Currently, we are looking for a junior receptionist to replace a former employee. The candidate must be friendly, warm, amiable, outgoing and have lots of confidence. Must also be bright and eager to learn, working towards a career in Natural Health Care.
As you know - we reward good employees with paid for studies if they are suitable candidates, as prescribed the the ASCHP ethical codes.

Good morning all!

Update on the borders opening up soon.

We have been informed by various (very) reliable sources that the borders will formally re-open on the 15th of September. School children are already crossing to the schools in Ladybrand every morning - apparently this issue was resolved successfully.

We know from news and other reports that the responsible government officials from ZA and Lesotho met two weeks ago to discuss the re-opening of the border and how to mitigate the various expected risks. On the South African side they are busy preparing the Maseru border post for what they term "the mass exodus". This information comes from the main controlling officer.

As always, when the border re-opens, keep your social distance while in South Africa, wear your face mask at all times, and when back in Lesotho try to prevent social interaction with those family members and friends who have serious underlying health conditions for at least 10 days. Until now Lesotho has been blessed with a low infection rate and and few deaths. Please let that continue....

Also - remember that sanitizing to much can be detrimental to your health. Only sanitize your hands when you are in public areas. There is a huge risk of "Superbugs" emerging from to much sanitizing - these critters are intelligent and can mutate to the point where they become resistant to the chemicals that kill them. We need to avoid that.

If you wish to come for a check-up or consultation - book early as we all know what is going to happen to the health care providers in our region - it is going to be a very busy time.

For the foreseable future we will not be going to Ladybrand, until the economy stabilize. We will consult only in Bloemfontein, until such time that I am comfortable with returning to the old modus operandi. We are busy training Peggy Mathekga - Bennie is no longer with us, and she needs to be fully trained before me and Nono can resume our duties in Ladybrand.

Also say Hi! to Dr Elize - she will be in charge when we eventually return to Ladybrand. I think you will like her very much - a warm, kind human being.

In good health and stay well

Good morning! Update relating to Covid-19 co-morbidities.

As we all know - what affects the mind ultimately affects the body. During this time of uncertainty - we have noticed a massive increase in gallstone cases. We ascribe this to the psychological effects of the Covid lock-down regulations, which in our regions case, is draconian.

This has had the following mental effects on people:

Anxiety
Depression
Fear
Loss of income
Uncertainty, and the result is

Bitterness - which equals gall....So, we have a new epidemic. Gallstone disease

This is significant, as we know through medical etiology that gallstones (also known as cholelythiasis) can cause a lot of related diseases like arthritis, diabetes and the most serious one, the big C - Cancer. It is known in oncology that Gallstones are the primary cause of liver cancer - it always start in the bile ducts.

Our prediction is that we are going to see a serious increase in liver cancer cases - as well as Pancreatic, Colon and Lymphatic cancers.

Therefore this update will urge everyone who has even the slightest symptoms of gallstones, and they are diverse to say the least, to do the gallbladder cleanse regularly.

Remember - gallstone disease has similar symptoms to a heart attack - thus your likely symptoms will be:

Asthma
Pain in the heart area
Nausea
Vomiting
Headache
Painful neck and shoulders
Pins and needles in the feet and hands
Swollen feet and ankles
Pain under the feet
Severe waist pain
Pain under the rib case on the right side
Blood sugar that suddenly spikes for no reason at all - usually incorrectly diagnosed as diabetes
Elevated blood pressure
Loss of sight
Feeling pressure, and loss of hearing, in the left ear
Fatigue
Bloatedness
Diarrhea alternating with constipation
Stomach ache

If you have any or all off these symptoms, you likely have gallstones.

To remove them - do the following

GALL BLADDER CLEANSE – 3 DAY PROGRAMME

DAY 1:

· Take 4 glasses, and put 1 heaped tablespoon Epsom salts in each glass. Fill half way with water

· Leave the glasses for an hour for the Epsom salts to dissolve

· After breakfast and before lunch – drink 1 glass pure grapefruit juice

· Starting after lunch – consume 1 glass of Epsom salt water every hour until the glasses are finished, i.e. start at 14h00 and finish at 17h00. After each glass of Epsom salts water – take ¼ glass grapefruit juice

· At 19h00 – do the following: Mix together with a blender until combined:

6 tablespoons Lemon juice
6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
½ glass grapefruit juice

When it is combined – drink and go to bed or lie on the couch and watch TV – lie on your right hand side. Relax.

· Do not eat dinner that night, and no fatty foods. You may eat breakfast and lunch

DAY 2:

· Repeat day 1

· Before you go to bed – prepare 3 more glasses of the Epsom salt water.

DAY 3:

· Upon rising – drink another glass of Epsom salts water, followed by:

6 tablespoons Lemon juice
6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
½ glass grapefruit juice

Blend with a whisk or blender

· When it is combined – drink

· Go immediately and get back into bed - and lie on your right hand side. The stones will pass within ½ hour. If you have not been to the toilet after ½ hour – take another glass of Epsom salts water

· At 10h00 – take your last dose of Epsom salts water.

· At 11h00 you may have a light breakfast. Avoid fatty foods for 2 days after you have completed the cleanse

When you have completed the cleanse you will feel fine and rejuvenated. Pain will be resolved unless not all the stones were discharged. If that is the case - wait one week and repeat the process.

Usually gallstone disease is also accompanied by a bacterial infection, Hepatitis B and chronic inflammation of the gallbladder. Therefore, we always advise to do a course of Bacterago therapy after you have completed the cleanse, to resolve underlying co-morbidities caused by the stones - and they are to numerous to mention in one post, actually even to complicated.

Keep strong - eat well - cleanse your liver and gallbladder, and you should be fine until we can meet again

Good afternoon all - update

We will be consulting in Ladybrand tomorrow.

If you need any medication, and know of someone who is in the area, please feel free to order through the normal channels.

Also note that for our Lesotho clients - is is very easy to get a permit to cross into South Africa. Request a letter from us, which has to state the health concern and seriousness thereof, take it to Dr. Mojale and he will arrange with the border authorities.

On the day of your crossing - you may have to wait at the ZA side while they contact Pretoria to authorize - usually around an hour, id you arrive at the border late. If you are early - you will be quickly assisted.

Have a great day!

Update Covid-19

Good morning all - urgent update for those wishing to see us either in Ladybrand or Bloemfontein.

This is the procedure. You request a letter from us, which has to include the diagnosis as well as urgency of the requested consultation/care being provided. We then compose such letter and send it back to you.

You then have to present said letter to Dr. Majola - he co-ordinates with the border authorities the time and date of your appointment which will then allow you to cross into South Africa.

I am still unsure as to the quarantine provisions - we are getting reports that you have to self-quarantine for 14 days once back in Lesotho. Maybe someone can enlighten us.

Further to this we have nothing much else to offer currently - except that a rare condition has been added to Covid-19 symptoms - temporary paralysis as a result of Covid-19 related brain infection, which plays havoc with the motor neuron system.

It is so rare that you need not worry about it. Getting more common is a disruption in the ability to taste food - also part of the motor neuron system. However we do not know what more to expect as the virus continues to mutate.

Dear all

Please note that we will be attending the Ladybrand clinic on Thursday, 7 May. If you need to see us, please email the office or myself and we will provide you with a letter that will allow you to travel or cross the border.

Do so 24 hours in advance if you are a Lesotho citizen. Remember you require a hard copy.

For those who travel in South Africa - usually a letter on your cellphone will be sufficient, if you are unable to print it out.

Keep safe

Covid-19 Update

Good afternoon all

Recent studies from France, the USA, the UK, Netherlands and Germany are now indicating that the virus infection numbers are far more widespread than previously assumed.

These studies indicate for instance, that in New York alone almost 17% of the population has been infected (relating to about 2.7 ml people). In Santa Clara county in California - the rate is over 30%. This has been done by testing for anti-bodies, which gives a good indication of the spread of the virus. All those tested remain a-symptomatic, reinforcing the hypothesis that the virus is not as dangerous as previously thought.

As I have re-iterated to some of you - we have been observing the spread of the Covid-19 virus since October last year - clients presenting with fever and flu-like symptoms, dry cough and fatigue. I found it rather odd as it was not flu-season, that should only start around May.

As a matter of fact - South Korea already alerted the USA, WHO and other countries on the 17th November 2019 about the possibility of a pandemic - but no one listened. We can see this in the SK success story of dealing with the outbreak - they we very well prepared and it shows in the number of infections and mortality rate which is very low if compared to the rest of the world.

It has also been proven by available statistics that it is the old and frail who are most at risk. In some cases mortality rates were 100% in rest homes in the USA. In South Africa we see the same pattern emerging in KZN - those who are old and frail - and have underlying health conditions (diagnosed or not diagnosed) are most at risk. When I saw this coming - I made the conscious decision not to visit my mom in the frail care unit that cares for her in Reddersburg - thus, I have not seen her for 3 months - but she is fine and they are under strict isolation.

The message that I am trying to convey though - is that we should all practice care when out shopping or in public areas. Sanitize your hands, wear a face mask, and keep at least 1 meter distance from those in your immediate environment. We can accept that infections are spreading with many of us being "sleepers" - those that are infected but are a-symptomatic.

Keep the old and frail safe and keep your distance from them - without neglecting care, helping with daily needs like food and other essential items. Explain the situation to them in order for them not to feel rejected, isolated and distanced from their normal social support system. You can even visit and have tea with them - but keep a healthy distance in order to keep THEM safe.

According to the statistics, the infection rate in Southern Africa is evening out and starting to drop - good news now that we are entering stage 4 of the lock-down period. Perhaps we only have to endure the lock-down period for a little longer - IF we do our duty and follow the lock-down protocols and rules. We are doing well indeed - almost a textbook case in Africa and the rest of the world.

Even though we are all suffering economic hardships as a result of the lock-down - I think that it was a wise decision - if a bit draconian, in order to help stop the spread of the virus. Our region (OFS and Lesotho) has been very diligent, and we need to keep it that way.

Dear clients

Further update on crossing the border for essential services.

We have had several confirmations that those who wish to cross the border for essential medical services, simply need to go to the South African Embassy, with a letter confirming your appointment as well as your valid passport, and they will issue a permit.

Those clients that visited Ladybrand today had no problem crossing the border. We already have clients that have appointments for next week in Bloemfontein, who followed the same procedure and were issued permits with no difficulty.

Thus far, Lesotho has no Covid-19 infections, nor does Ladybrand and the eastern Free State region. We therefore urge clients from Lesotho to preferably consult in Ladybrand and not Bloemfontein. Bloemfontein is considered one of the epicenters of the pandemic in Southern Africa, thus it is better avoided for the time being, unless it is an emergency.

Update border crossing during lock down period.

There are rumors that any travel arrangements need to be referred to Pretoria for approval.

This is not true, you simply need to take a confirmation letter to the South African Embassy or present same to your District Administrator. There are skeleton staff on duty.

We have five existing or new clients coming to Ladybrand today who have all received permission with a permit being issued.

Stay safe

Update regarding medical services in South Africa regarding Lesotho patients and clients:

According to one of our clients - the following process needs to be followed:

If a Lesotho patient referred to a hospital in South Africa - you need to go to the Queen Elizabeth 11 hospital authorities (currently operating from BEDCO) who will arrange it for you. Those who receive chemotherapy, and are in need of essential health services, will be accommodated. This is according to Nyane Letsie - the Director General at the Ministry of Health. They will in turn arrange with the South African High Commission which will allow you to travel.

For Nu-Life clients - you need to get a motivating letter from us, then take it to the South African Embassy - who will direct you to the appropriate entity to process the request. You will need to take your passport along as you need to present it to them.

The Director General expressed concern over the fact that those who receive medical services in South Africa are now unable to access such services. This arrangement for access applies to those who are self sponsored as well as those who are catered for by the government, effectively opening up the border for those in need of essential medical services.

Permits for travel are therefore now available.

As Nu-Life is part of primary health care, we are viewed as an essential service. Ladybrand will therefore remain open on Thursdays and Fridays, depending on the volume of clients booking to consult with us. Please be pro-active if you need our help.
