This little wand may look small, but it does something powerful.
A pap smear gently screens for early cervical cell changes.

When we detect changes early, we can treat them early.

And that is where the real magic lies.

Prevention.
Protection.
Peace of mind.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time to bring understanding and support to women who may be living with ongoing pelvic pain.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.

For many women, this can lead to pain, fatigue and symptoms that affect everyday life.

One of the hardest parts is that many women are told their pain is “just part of having a period”. Because of this, some women live with symptoms for years before discovering the real cause.

Signs that may need medical attention can include:
• Period pain that feels overwhelming or disruptive
• Pelvic pain that continues outside of your period
• Pain during intimacy
• Heavy or difficult periods
• Ongoing fatigue or discomfort

Identifying the cause of your symptoms is the first step toward creating a treatment plan that works for you.

In 2016 I started my registrar training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Already a doctor,
but becoming a specialist.
Still studying.
Still learning every day.
Still on call at all hours.

Looking back is realising how much those years shaped me.
Not just as a doctor, but as a person.

During pregnancy, your body performs one of its greatest feats, increasing blood volume by up to 50%.

This extra circulation supports your baby’s growth, nourishes the placenta, and prepares your body for delivery.

It’s a reminder that every heartbeat is working overtime for two. 💕

👉 Save this post as a gentle reminder of just how extraordinary your body really is.

🌿 Folic Acid in Pregnancy & Beyond 🌿

🌿 Folic acid is essential in early pregnancy to prevent brain and spine defects, as well as throughout pregnancy to support the growing baby.

🌿 The neural tube is formed before most women even know they are pregnant - if you are planning a pregnancy, it is important to start ASAP. Ideally we aim for supplementation 12 weeks for conceiving.

🌿 There are benefits outside of pregnancy in women with anaemia or heavy bleeding - ensure that any iron supplementation for these conditions is accompanied by folic acid.

3 Gentle Reminders for Every Woman

💗 Love Yourself Enough to Check:
Do regular self-checks to get to know your body.

Self breast examinations are the number 1 way to detect early changes, especially in young women before they start mammogram screenings

🩺 Trust Your Doctor:
A breast examination is part of your routine check-up

Ask your doctor to teach the correct technique for your own checks

📸 Prioritise Your Screenings:
Mammograms every 2nd year from the age of 40

🌸 Because early detection gives us more time, more options, and more hope. 🌸
