In my recent antenatal classes one mother asked if she has to stop eating acidic foods (like garlic), gassy foods (like avocado and beans) when she starts breastfeeding.

My answer is : There are so many of these foods that mothers think they should avoid because they think the foods will cause winds and colic in babies.However according to studies, if most foods are consumed in moderation, babies who will be on breastfeeding will not show any signs of being affected.

One of the questions that I get to answer regularly in my antenatal classes is; Does ginger beer increase milk production in breastfeeding mothers?

My answer is : Homemade old fashioned ginger beer that is made with real ginger and yeast is thought to enhance lactation.But this has not been backed by any scientific research.
