iThemba Labantu - Lutheran Community Centre iThemba Labantu is a Community Centre situated in Philippi, one of Cape Town's poorest townships Health care (AIDS-clinic)

The Lutheran Community Centre assists the township communities through the following fields of operation:
1. Income generating projects (beadwork, ceremics,sewing)
4. Education (pre-school, computer lab, business courses, motor mechanics and installation of solar systems)
5. Youth work (gym, karate, soccer, drama etc.) Visions of Youth Work
- Create equal opportunities for Youth of historically disadvantaged areas and balance social injustice within society
- Create a place of love, safety, acceptance
- Encourage them to believe that they can achieve everything they want in life
- Balance social problems through working with their strength and build up self-esteem
- Create a safer Philippi and South Africa through building up Youth

Aims of Youth Work
- get kids off the street
- teach them to integrate into groups and work together
- build up trustful relationships with them
- help them to get their lives into order
- teach them life skills
- provide education and deal with their social/family problems

Our current youth projects
- Marimba project – 20 kids between 11 and 17 years
- youth/drama group – 30 youngsters between 15 and 23
- soccer – 120 youngsters between 8 and 25
- karate – 20 kids between 6 and 18
- basketball
- youth counselling with school leavers
- school after care program

Every week our pre-school and monrning class kids are get taught water safety and swimming skills at the local pool. These skills keeps them safe as there are many waterlogged areas in our community which puts a risk of drowning. It is also an essential life- skill that boost their self-esteem and obviously it is fun as well!

Over 300 children participated in our Philipp Lahm tournament. Eight soccer teams (U8, U10 divisions) competed against each other. The netball tournament catered for the U17 age group.
Thank you to the Philipp Lahm foundation that made this tournament and the centres sport program possible.
