THE BACK MUSCLES ANATOMY ✍️

The back muscles are organized into two main groups, extrinsic and intrinsic, which are further divided into three layers: superficial, intermediate, and deep. These muscles work together to protect the spinal cord, provide stability, and enable movement of the trunk, head, neck, and upper limbs.

🛡️ Preventing Injuries Starts With You!

Staying active is great — staying safe is even better. Here are simple ways to protect your body and keep moving with confidence:

✅ Warm up before you move
Light stretching or mobility work prepares your muscles and joints.

✅ Strengthen regularly
Strong muscles support joints and reduce the risk of strains.

✅ Use proper technique
Whether you’re lifting weights or lifting groceries — form matters!

✅ Listen to your body
Pain is a signal, not a challenge. Rest when you need to.

✅ Stay consistent
Gradual progress helps prevent overload injuries.

If something feels off, a physiotherapist can help identify the cause and guide your recovery. 💪

🌍 International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Today we honour the strength, resilience, and achievements of persons with disabilities.

At our practice, we believe in creating an inclusive space where every individual is supported, empowered, and treated with dignity.

Physiotherapy plays a vital role in improving mobility, independence, and quality of life — helping people participate fully in the activities they love.

Let’s continue to raise awareness, break barriers, and celebrate abilities. 💙

🌟 What is Bell’s Palsy? 🌟

Bell’s Palsy is a sudden weakness or paralysis of the muscles on one side of the face.

It happens when the facial nerve becomes inflamed, causing symptoms like:
✔️ Drooping of one side of the face
✔️ Difficulty closing the eye
✔️ Drooling or changes in speech
✔️ Heightened sensitivity to sound
✔️ Loss of facial expressions

The good news? Most people recover fully — and physiotherapy plays a big role in that recovery! 💛

How Physiotherapy Can Help:
✨ Gentle facial exercises to improve muscle strength and movement
✨ Soft tissue techniques to reduce stiffness
✨ Nerve stimulation therapies to encourage recovery
✨ Guidance to prevent unwanted movement patterns
✨ Eye-care education to protect the affected eye

With early and consistent treatment, recovery is often quicker and smoother. 🙌

THE GASTROCNEMIUS MUSCLE ✍️.

✅ The gastrocnemius is a two-headed muscle that forms the bulk of the calf, with the medial head originating from the medial femoral condyle and the lateral head from the lateral femoral condyle. It inserts onto the calcaneus (heel bone) via the Achilles tendon and its functions include plantar flexing the foot and flexing the knee. The muscle is innervated by the tibial nerve, which comes from the S1 and S2 nerve roots.

✅ Origin
Medial head: Posterior surface of the medial femoral condyle.
Lateral head: Posterior surface of the lateral femoral condyle.

✅ Insertion
Common insertion: The two heads converge and, along with the soleus muscle, form the calcaneal tendon, which inserts on the posterior surface of the calcaneus (heel bone).

✅ Function
Plantar flexion: The primary action is pointing the toes down, which is essential for walking, running, and jumping.
Knee flexion: It also helps to bend the knee.
Stabilization: It acts as a dynamic stabilizer of the knee joint.

✅ Innervation
Tibial nerve: Derived from the S1 and S2 nerve roots.
