Our library just keeps getting better! Thanks to the dedication of our wonderful volunteer team, we now have an even easier way to find your next great read. All non-fiction books proudly wear a bright orange sticker, while autobiographies sport a distinctive deep pink label—making browsing simpler and ensuring every book finds its way back to the right spot.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a committed group keeping things running so smoothly—Marcia Raymond, Lesley Stewart, Liz Croeser, and Anne Van Sittert. Their passion and hard work create a space that is always inviting and organised.

A Rosh Hashanah Dinner 2025: Welcoming the Jewish New Year with Tradition and Togetherness

As the sun sets and the first stars appear in the sky, families and friends gather around the table to welcome Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. It is a time of reflection, renewal, and hope - a moment to celebrate the sweetness of life and the promise of a new beginning.

The dinner table, beautifully set, with wine and traditional foods, becomes the heart of the evening. As guests take their seats, the meal begins with the lighting of the Shabbat and holiday candles, followed by the Kiddush blessing over wine - the HaMotzi, the blessing over challah. On Rosh Hashanah, the challah is round, symbolising the cycle of the year and the continuity of life.

One of the most beloved customs is dipping apple slices into honey, accompanied by the hope for a "sweet new year"- Shanah Tovah U’Metukah.

The meal itself is a feast of comfort and tradition. The Menu included Chicken Noodle Soup, Chopped Liver, Roast Chicken and Vegetables and a beautiful Apple Crisp dessert to end the night on a sweet note.

But more than the food, Rosh Hashanah dinner is about the gathering - being surrounded by loved ones, sharing stories, laughter, blessings, and the collective prayer for a year of health, peace, and renewal.
