What is an NT Scan?

The Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan is performed between 11 and 13w6d of pregnancy.

This scan measures the fluid at the back of baby’s neck and forms part of first trimester screening for certain chromosomal conditions.

During the scan we also:

• Confirm baby’s gestational age
• Check the nasal bone
• Assess early anatomy
• Confirm the heartbeat
• Measure the nuchal translucency

The NT scan can be combined with maternal blood tests to calculate screening risk.

What is a Fetal Assessment (FA) Scan?

The Fetal Assessment Scan — also known as the Anatomy Scan — is usually done between 18 and 24 weeks of pregnancy.

This is a detailed medical scan where we assess:

• Baby’s brain and spine
• Heart structure
• Face and limbs
• Abdominal organs
• Placenta location
• Amniotic fluid
• Growth measurements

This scan helps evaluate your baby’s development and overall wellbeing.

Second Trimester (14–27 weeks)

Many moms feel more like themselves again during this stage 🤍
Energy often improves, and you may start feeling your baby move.

Common symptoms include:

• Increased energy
• Growing bump
• First baby movements (quickening)
• Back or pelvic discomfort
• Heartburn
• Skin changes (darkening or stretch marks)

Every pregnancy is unique — some moms feel amazing, others still experience discomfort.

🌱 First Trimester (0–13 weeks)

🤍 What’s the difference between 2D and 3D/4D ultrasound scans?

2D Ultrasound
• Black-and-white medical images
• Used to check baby’s growth, anatomy, heartbeat, placenta and fluid
• Essential for medical assessment throughout pregnancy

3D / 4D Ultrasound
• Shows baby’s face and features
• 3D = still images
• 4D = live movement (smiles, yawns, stretches)
• Often used for bonding and keepsake images

✨ Both scans are safe and use sound waves — not radiation.
Each has its own purpose, and many parents choose both during pregnancy.
